I purchased an EWI USB about a year ago and have never been able to make it work decently with the included software. Latency was terrible. I downloaded ASIO4all and invested in a low latency sound card; still no luck. I frequently experienced stuck notes that will not shut off. Finally I put in the closet and forgot about it.
Several other reviewers on other sites have reported simiilar problems but some folks have made the EWI USB work and are happy with it. Part of the problem may be the software and that can be replaced. Maybe I am just not computer literate enough for this instrument. My computer was an HP pavillion 6532a with Windows Vista first, then Windows XP.
There seems to be so many negative reviews on the EWI USB. But I've loved it ever since I got it. Works great with my MacBook Pro and Reason. I use it in a cover band I'm in to play the original synths for the songs we play (I create them in Reason and play it on stage live). It's a lot of fun and it helps me pay the bills. I definitely recommend it to saxophonists who want to push their skills over the edge.
works best with a mac computer or a pc running windows 7 with an ASIO4ALL driver.
The EWI settings are software adjusted.

I have been playing an EWI USB for over a year and am quite happy with it. Kontakt 5 from Native Instruments is a great sampler to use with it.
I bought a brand new USB EWI pro.
You imagine buying something with the glowing reports that Akai send out, and just open the box and off you go.
I have a new pc and happily opened the box and set it all up.
The manual would have been fine if it had worked.A few hours later it eventually played noises that didn't sound like an alien farting.
My comp repair man said the software was set up wrongly.
I started with a scale on what was supposed to be a saxophone. It was so sensitive that you couldn't play a semibreve on it's own without other notes playing (ad lib).
It also took lots of breath pressure to blow it which gave my daughter and I a head ache after a fruitless hour of practice.
I e-mailed the seller and checked why it sounded so bad and asked if I was just not carefull enough.(Still waiting for a reply),
having read other reviews it seems you have to buy better sounds for it. There isn't even a bass guitar for if you want to have a jam.
I had a yamaha wind synth about 15 years ago. I really thought that this would be precise and do what it said on the box. Very disapointed:0(
