Product Description
Alesis
Need we say more? The Alesis Masterlink is THE standard for doing mix-downs, archiving your mixes, mastering them and burning them to CD. The Masterlink will even burn 24 bit/96k mixes to a STANDARD CDR! The ML-9600 2.0 combines hard disk recording, editing, digital signal processing and the world's most advanced high-resolution CD-R format for creating professional, fully finished two track masters.
Product Overview and Specifications
Think of it as a Complete Mastering House in a Box.

Only MasterLink lets you capture your mixes in stunning 24-bit, 96kHZ; edit your recording and apply finishing tools - such as high-resolution parametric EQ, Compression, limiting and normalizing - all in the same system and then burn the finished recording in either industry-standard Redbook, or new high resolution CD24, fast becoming the new standard for archiving and transferring high-resolution audio files to the mastering room.

Even if you are using a computer to record with, the Masterlink still makes sense, as you can mix, master, and burn your CD's while you are using your computer for other things (like tracking your next project!). The Masterlink is so easy to use, that you can have your clients (or band members), making copies of your latest song, while you start another one on your computer!

The Masterlink is also great if you like to track in the digital domain, but like to mix in the analog domain (or use outboard analog devices such as tube compressors, tube/classic compressors, EQ's etc...). The Masterlink makes this a breeze! Just patch the Masterlink into your system, and you never have to worry about taxing your CPU, plus you can mix AND burn 24/96k masters to a STANDARD CDR (right now these can only be played back in Masterlink compatible systems, but in the next few years there will be MANY 24/96k compatible systems available, so be prepared!).

But don't take our word for it. Visit your local Alesis dealer today and learn why top pros like George Massenburg, Roger Nichols, Elliot Scheiner, Al Schmitt, and Greg Ladanyi have traded in their DAT's for Masterlink. Or better yet, just get off your musically inclined little butt and buy one! After all, it's only your career we're talking about here.

This unit delivers as promised. I have been using my Masterlink for many on-site recording projects and live concerts for over 4 years now. It has all the inputs and outputs you'd ever desire. The built in EQ, compression, and other editing capabilities are top notch quality. Also, the internal HD is IDE and can be upgraded easily. The downsides: I still prefer using a computer to do my editing. The ML is powerful but the buttons and small screen can be daunting. I find that it takes me much more time to edit (cuts, fades) directly on the unit, exceptions being compression and EQ. It lacks a much wanted USB or Firewire connection. It still burns CDs at 4 speed. Last I read, the CD burner isn't upgradeable. Note that it's possible to burn with CDRWs but you cannot erase them directly on the unit! There is no record level adjustment on the unit. All levels must be done with your preamp/mixer. Last downside is that it's only 2 channel. This has been fine for my live recordings, but I still record with high quality computers in the studio. All and all, an excellent high quality product if it suits your needs. Just be cautioned to the limitations that some other newer devices do not have.
