Alexander Reeds stepped onto the scene in the early 1990s with a design that was informed from past successful reeds and integrated with new technology. The result was precise, quality reeds. The original line of Alexander Reeds was the Superial design. This singlecut reed offers a big, American style sound and comes in a signature yellow tin. Its design was tested with various professional musicians and was thoroughly consulted with by the extraordinary mouthpiece maker Ralph Morgan.
Shortly following the success of the Superial reed, the brand decided to design a double cut, “DC,” reed. The tip of this design is harder and enables the instrument to produce a darker, powerful sound. Inspired by 1950s musical trends such as Blue Note and Big Band, this reed is ideal for solo and lead work. In 1997, Alexander Reeds introduced a reed targeted at classical woodwind players. The Classique line is also preferred by some jazz players who desire more resistance from their reed. The brand based their original design on a former reed which had been praised by many classical clarinetists but had ceased production due to limited commercial success.
In 2007, Alexander Reeds presented their newest addition to the family with the NY reeds. This reed contributes to a powerful, responsive, bold sound attributed to the sound of New York music. The design was born from extensive input from the legendary jazz saxophonist Michael Brecker and was also field tested by numerous Alexander World Artists.
Regardless of your instrument and preferences, Alexander Reeds has a reed that can enrich and enhance the sound of your saxophone or clarinet.
