Alexander Reeds DC Tenor Saxophone ReedsSuperial "D.C." ReedsTonal Concept of the Past"DC" has a slightly harder tip and more wood in the heart and sides than Superial and this produces characteristics of a darker, more powerful, more solid tone core, but an enhanced feeling of aliveness, a singing but deep resonance. Made from the finest of wild grown Var cane, each and every reed table is checked under light for flatness and hand adjusted if necessary.

These are really good reeds. When I'm playing a long jazz gig, I make doubly sure to throw on a totally new reed. These sound and feel really good, but when they start to wear out, they die hard and fast. It's a small price to pay for an otherwise solid reed though.
Let me start of by saying that these reeds are amazing. I am 17 years old i have giged alot, but a musician, you always try to find the best....everything. The D.C reeds are , for me, the best. my set up is a Otto link 8* and, of course, Alexander Superial 'D.C' 3. These reeds give you a dark beautiful tone. I recommend that you study what everyone has to say about these reeds and then get them, because we all have different a set up. Also get a half a size smaller than you usually would play on because, yes, they have a softer tip, but the reed has more heart and more cane in the sides. get a reed knife to help you out. overall these reeds are the best. they are a must try.
I'd heard a few people praise these reeds, so I decided to go ahead and pick up a couple boxes to give them a try. I'm glad I bought two, because the first one I opened had a single usable reed. By "usable" I don't mean it was good. I mean, only one out of the five in the box was usable at all. Of the other four, two had multiple divits on the heart and shelf, one had a notch on the tip, and the fourth had a decent sized shred of the vamp halfway off. The second box I opened wasn't so bad, with only one reed being completely unusable. The four that worked seemed to work well. Of all the reeds I've used over the years, these seem to be the pickiest about being properly broken in. The included instructions recommend that you first play on each reed for a max of five minutes the first couple of days. For me, at least, this was completely true. I swear that, at minute six, the reed started to sound fuzzy. When they're broken in properly and free from major defects, they play wonderfully. The lower register does seem to flow more freely compared to other reeds I've tried. I had read a previous review telling people to buy a half size lower than they're used to. I usually play on Vandoren Java size 3's, so went with a 2 1/2 when ordering these. If I buy another box, I'll most likely order D.C. 3's.
These reeds are great!!! They have super awesome response!!!
These reeds have saved me on more than one occasion. Tom's DC cut reeds are the most durable, consistent and full sounding reeds on the planet. They have worked on my Links, my old Dukoff Hollywood and now, on my Guardala Brecker tenor piece. They've got the right amount of buzz for what I'm playing and they last for months at times. I use 3.5's with my Guardala (an 8* or so) and I can't recommend them highly enough for any player looking for consistent quality.
