Description
Embolden your tenor sax's sound with Alexander's New York series reeds.
  • South France cane
Tip and profile designed for bold sound and sustain

Alexander Reeds New York Tenor Saxophone Reeds
The New York series of Alexander reeds are made with high-grade Southern France cane and have a redesigned tip and profile,to produce a big and bold sound, full response throughout the registers, and the type of vibrant, solid tone traditionally associated with that of the New York music scene. The tip is somewhat harder than Alexander's Superial DC, giving it an exceptional sustaining power, especially in the high end of the horn.

This reed was born following extensive conversations and correspondence between Tom Alexander and the legendary late, great jazz saxophone genius Michael Brecker some years ago. Without Michael's gracious and invaluable feedback after experimenting with different prototype designs, this reed simply would not have come into existence.

NY Tenor Sax Reeds were also thoroughly field tested by subjecting them to many months of on-the-job playing in the concert and tour performances of several Alexander World Artists who gave them their seal of approval and use NY as their primary reed today.

First of all Alexander reeds are great. I recently began playing these reeds after trying the vandoren red box, and to me these are better. they match perfectly with my Jazz setup. They offer a excellent tone, and helps with my projection.I recommend these reeds to anyone who is serious about playing contemporary music. These reeds are worth the price.

I recently changed my setup to a Jody Jazz DV 10 and it took me about a month before I tried the Alexander NYs. I tried everything else first in multiple strengths but nothing seemed to be just right. If they were hard enough, they wouldn't speak, but if they would speak right, they didn't have enough heart. Then I broke down and tried these. They are amazing! The perfect combination of playability and sound. They speak easily throughout the register and they have a huge sound with just enough edge. You can push them as hard as you want and they will take it like a champ. Two great ones in the box and three good ones. None were bad and all are usable for gigs after break in period.

"Excellent response, consistent quality"

I was using a Berg Larson 95/2 metal mouthpiece with a traditional Vandoren 2 1/2 reeds, and made a giant leap to a Yanagisawa 9 metal mouthpiece. The Vandoren reeds had a bit of a whistle-like overtone with the new mouthpiece. I wanted a brighter sound but still with some good fatness to produce a big sound that cuts through, but the whistle-like overtones were a negative for me. I switched to Alexander New York 2.5 reeds and they get along beautifully with my Yanagisawa 9 piece. No whistle-like overtones at all, just a powerful sound when I want, and the set up is flexible enough to easily produce nice soft subtones in the lower register as well. I'm loving the flexibility I'm getting with these reeds.

Inabsolutely love these reeds, they are a wonderful gift from the late Michael Brecker and give you the best combination of tone, body, and edge. Whether I am playing jazz, gospel, contemporary pop, country or rock these reeds deliver everything I need. Before with doing soft ballads I would have to switch from my Dukoff D9 to my Otto Link 10, but now with these reeds I can use the Dukoff exclusively for all my work! I use the no. 3's on my Dukoff D9 and Kielwerth tenor and it is an amazing combination, very flexible and versatile. I have to get a Guardala MBII now and use the Dukoff as a backup LOL!! These reeds are fanominal I highly recommend them, just a little note, they run about a half strength softer than Vandoren Traditionals.

Out of all reeds, I find that these play well for me and my set-up. Even when I go down that slippery slope of trying other reeds, I always come back quickly to these reeds. I don't get many good ones per box, but the couple/few that I do find work fine.
