Penetrates metal and lubricates very well. Extremely slick and lasts very long. Couple of drops on valves or slide is all it's needed. Will not need re-treatment for several months to a year. I usually re-treat my valves with this oil once or twice a year. This oil is the last oil brand I will ever need. Comes in a smaller bottle than other brands, but Alisyn wastes less oil unlike other cheap brands. Most other brand users know how often they have to re-oil their valves. I remember when I used to have to re-oil my valves every week just for my trumpet to be in top condition. Definitely worth your money.
I tried this oil for a couple of months in my Getzen Capri cornet. The lubricating properties were satisfactory however, this oil seems to react with moisture and/or saliva or possibly the combination of that and brass or silver. The moisture/residue from the valve casings, first and third valve slides turned yellow in color. This yellow residue stained everything it came in contact with. For this reason, I discontinued using it.
I have been playing brass instruments from tuba to trumpet since 1973. I am also a band director and get supplied with samples from many different companies. As you can imagine, I have tried MANY different types. This is the BEST valve oil I've used and I didn't even know it originally. I originally dismissed Alisyn simply because I had some "favorites" that I used instead of even trying Alisyn. However, I had an old student model Conn trumpet that I basically thought of as a "throw away". I cleaned it up but didn't need it any more and purely by "accident" lubed it with Alisyn. I put it in the attic (no heat or air-conditioning) and forgot about it for 8 YEARS!! I had a student that really needed a horn and I just happened to stumble across this old trumpet in the attic. I took it out of the case expecting it to be ruined (as it should have been) but instead the valves worked BETTER than I remembered and the horn played awesome! I couldn't believe my ears. A++ for Alisyn!
When I first purchased this oil, I had been using first act. It was poor quality and was destroying my valves. A friend recommended it and I immediately loved it. It hardly needs to be reapplied. I have only had to use it about 15 times(I oil before special occasions) Totally worth your money. Buy a few and then you don't need to get more for a while
While I liked the feel of this oil, it did not like me. There was an almost immediate chemical reaction between Alisyn oil, brass and my saliva which resulted in brown condensation in the horn. By combining a drop of Alisyn oil and a drop of saliva on a brass plate I was able to confirm this was the source of the brown liquid. The brass plate was etched after the test. Obviously, not everyone has this experience. I happened to be one of the unlucky ones.
