Allen & Heath PA20 / Harbinger APS15 PA Package

Allen & Heath PA20 Mixer
The PA20 mixer has been designed with all the tools you will need to run a standard stereo PA system. With innovative design and excellent sound quality, these entry level consoles makes an ideal live mixer for club performers, schools' systems, conference rooms and traveling musicians. If you care about quality, you'll also appreciate the PA series build standards, including the same individual vertical circuit boards, nutted pots, and solid copper buss interconnection as the acclaimed ML series consoles. PA20 mixing consoles have the wonderfully full, open, natural quality that you'd expect from a professional Allen & Heath desk.


The Allen & Heath PA20 has 16 mono channels with mic (XLR) and line (TRS) inputs. Each mono channel features a padless 2-stage preamp offering pristine sound quality with switchable +48V phantom power. The channel's line input goes to the preamp's second stage for better impedance matching and performance. Each mono channel also has a switched 100Hz high pass filter, insert point, 4-band EQ, 4 aux sends, mute with LED indicator, PFL button with LED (functions as peak indicator), plus a 100mm fader.


4-band EQ
Each mono channel features a 4-band EQ comprising Shelving LF (60Hz) and HF (12kHz) with fixed Low-Mid (250Hz), and swept High-Mid (300Hz - 6kHz). The fixed 250Hz control has been carefully selected to provide reduction of muddy sounds and enhance warmth.


2 stereo channels
The Allen & Heath PA20 also has stereo channels with RCA and 1/4" jacks (unbal). Independent gain controls provide source mixing in the channel strip. The RCA inputs can be switched direct to Left/Right instead of the channel strip, providing extra returns. Each stereo channel also has 1-band shelving EQ. 4 aux sends, stereo balance control, mute with LED indicator, PFL with LED, and 100mm fader.


4 Aux sends
The PA20 audio mixer provides 4 aux sends from all channels. Two sends are pre-fade for monitor mixes—they have 100mm fader masters, mute switch with LED indicator, AFL with LED indicator, and TRS outputs, which can be routed internally to the output section. The third send is a post-fade aux mix for effects, which feeds the internal FX processor and has a TRS jack output for external effects units. The fourth aux send is also post-fade aux mix that sends to a TRS jack for external effects or special feeds.


Mix Outputs
The main stereo mix output has a 100mm fader and mute switch with an LED indicator. The PA20 also has a mono sum output with level control subwoofer mode switch. There are also switchable pre/post fader RCA and S/PDIF record outs, plus twin 12-segment LED bar meters that show program (or PFL/AFL). Insert points on TRS jack for external processing as well as output EQ and routing to internal amplifiers/external systems are provided.


Output EQ

A 4-band semi-parametric EQ enhances the output section. This affects the TRS slave outputs and the internal constant power amplifiers, offering more control than graphic equalizers for precise management of speakers—especially foldback/monitors. Source selector allows output EQ section to be used on left/ right, L&R sum/Foldback1, or Foldback1/Foldback2.


Digital FX
A 16-program, digital effects processor provides reverbs, delays, chorus, and others, including effects combinations. The FX module takes its feed from the post-fade FX aux on the mono and stereo channels. The output of the FX module is controlled by a 100mm fader with mute switch and PFL, and is routed to the stereo mix and FB1&2 with post fade level controls. 2 TRS inputs with level control provide a way of combining external effects with the internal unit. The internal effects can be switched off to use external effects only if preferred. A footswitch TRS jack is provided to mute the effects channel. Editing of effects can be done via MIDI using the software editor available free from the resource CD or the Allen & Heath website.


Master Section
Background music (BGM) mode plays 2-track input into the main mix (post fader), allowing you to pull down the fader (while patching, taking a break, or during walk-in) and leave music playing. Also provide in the master section are: 2-track input (RCA) with level control that feeds the headphone monitor selector (checking recording) while twin, 3-color 12-segment LED meters display the active monitor source; large LED indicates active PFL/AFL signal; standby switch uses relays to disconnect the speakers; 2 track output (RCA analog and S/PDIF) allows direct-to-digital recording; switchable pre/post master L&R fader; mono sum out with level mode switch for subwoofer feed with 100Hz low pass filter; and headphones out (TRS) with level control.
