Comments about Allora AABC-304 Bass Clarinet:

At last night's rehearsal those close by said "nice tone". Playing from low E up to D. The mid C requires throat adjustment to remain in tune.Higher tones sing good. The Bb sounds stuffy. The ligature ill fitting with and without reed.

Pretty Good for the price

Comments about Allora AABC-304 Bass Clarinet:

I have played Bass Clarinet for many years. Could not afford an 8,000+ one so decided to try this one. I am pretty pleased. Having nowhere to put your hands is really common with Low C bass clarinets (even with Selmer Paris low c's). There are definitely some notes that don't speak very easily but if you work with it and spend the time getting used to this instrument it works fine. When I took this to my professor the only thing he said was that he would recommend a higher quality mouthpiece. We have been very pleased!

Not Worth the Money - Low C

By

Comments about Allora AABC-304 Bass Clarinet:

I was really excited to receive this bass clarinet (low C model) for Christmas, but noticed some problems as soon as I took it out of the case. To start off with, there is virtually nowhere to put your hands to put it together, and you will most likely bend something, affecting its tone and overall ability to make sound. Also, it does not have an even tone, with some notes sounding fuzzy or being inconsistent. Another minor problem is that the peg, at least on the instrument I got, would not stay where it was put, and would slide if any amount of pressure was placed on it. If a low C is needed, and the budget is $2000, I guess it would be fine, but if you are buying one just to have one, save up for a nicer model or get an Eb for the same price from a different manufacturer. Be warned - if you do buy this instrument, you or someone you know should know how to make minor repairs to it, because it will be necessary. It's too bad, because I've wanted a low C for a while now, but I can't afford $4000+.
