Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb FlugelhornThe Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn offers a rich full sound and great intonation. This AAFG-103F Series features vertical valve slides with a 3rd valve slide trigger and a Rose brass bell for a warm, rich sound. The Allora AAFG-103F Series Bb Flugelhorn includes a case and mouthpiece and is available in lacquer (AAFG-103F) finish. It has a sweet, dark tone and plays beautifully. Flugelhorns in general not being a student instrument at all, this design is aimed at the discriminating player who isn't motivated to invest the two thousand dollars or more that a professional level flugelhorn typically costs. To merit the Allora name, an instrument must first meet exacting standards for intonation, comfort and mechanical reliability. The end result is an instrument that not only sounds beautiful but can withstand the rigors of those first few band years.

Great deal for a great flugel. Smooth, dark tone, especially if you buy an extra deep mouthpiece for it. I got a DW 4FL and the sound is just gorgeous, very velvety and dark. I would say best flugel for the price
WWBW's sale price made for a phenomenal deal on a very fine horn. Intonation is solid. Slides and the third valve slide trigger work well. The valves are a bit stiffer than the Bach played before but smooth and responsive. Sound is mellow, a little smoky, and darker than on a Yamaha tried before. G# and A above the staff seem a little off so far. Playing pedal F# to C is fun, although from there to low F is not so far. So far, the horn has handled everything from Chuck Mangione tunes to old German Lenten pieces just fine.
Being a sax player for 40 years I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a flugelhorn. after all I might get to play 3 songs at most with it at gigs.
It came with a f1 mouth piece and with some work was able to get a decent sound from it and good range. Valves where super stiff out of the box and had no lubrication, but with a cleaning, oiling and break in are just fine. The horn blows very freely with a very dark tone, I had no problems with intonation
Has the quality of a much more expensive horn. And I am very happy with it.
I bought this horn several months ago. I am a trombonist who wanted an inexpensive flugelhorn to learn to play and use as an alternate double on small jazz gigs.
It is no longer made in East Germany. Production was sent to China. Build quality seems solid although time always tells. Case is very cheaply made, but what do you expect? The valves were initially slow, but after a thorough break-in and cleaning, they are now responsive.
Horn comes with an odd mouthpiece. I now play a Yamaha 11F which is kind of small in place of the stock one. I will move up to a larger mouthpiece but need to determine the taper of the leadpipe. Has a dark tone. Some intonation problems that are pretty standard with flugels. For example, the high A is flat but is improved with a combination of 1st and 2nd valve instead of 2nd alone. Being a bone player, I don't know if this is just the horn I'm playing or the way I'm playing it...
It is essentially a close copy of the Yamaha 631.
I can recommend the horn to those who are looking for their first foray into flugel playing. I'm not disappointed and I don't believe you will be either!
Picked up this horn to do 4-5 tunes a night. For the price it is a great value. Plays in tune, nice sound and valves are fine. Nice round sound. Would recommend to any pro looking to play a few small group tunes or for the occasional big band gig.
