Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

I love this tenor sax, I get compliments regarding the appearance, an accomplished jazz sax player gave me a second look when I first played it because I got a good jazz sound out of it. This sax is very easy to play and is in tune with itself. I even like the compact case design. I am so glad I to a chance and purchase this sax.

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

Was wary about a Taiwan made sax, but after research decided to take the plunge with this manufacturer, and this particular model. I play a lot of more modern "smooth" jazz at my gigs (like Euge Groove, etc) and use an Otto Link New York metal mouthpiece. On arrival, apart from one small screw adjustment, it played right out of the box and sounded magnificent. The lows were rich, the mids were round and clean and the highs were clean, crystal clear and not thin such as with cheaper made horns. Keyed to high F#, was easily able to overblow to high A! This is replacing a defective New Cannonball Tenor costing twice as much (purchased elsewhere), yet delivers better quality sound and intonation. Coupled with my chosen mouthpiece and reed it is perfect for the style of jazz I play, and the dark gold coloring of the instrument makes it to be a real looker as well! Was able to achieve a variety of tonal colors from the darker "Chicago jazz" style to the brighter more modern sound without any difficulty; the horn is THAT responsive! In over 30 years of playing jazz sax I can safely say this is one of the top 3 horns I have ever played! HIGHLY recommended - just make sure you buy a quality mouthpiece (and obviously use a good ligature and quality reeds) to realize the performance capabilities of this sax.

    So far so good!

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

I'm an adult hobbyist and have only played for a few years. I looked around for a used sax but didn't have any luck. I got this sax a few weeks ago and took it over to Rayburn music since I don't have enough expertise myself to evaluate it. I asked the tech if the intonation is accurate, if it is a good quality instrument, and if it needs any adjustments. He inspected it and said the intonation was good, horn quality was good, and adjusted the action on some pads, which cost $25. He told me the overall design of the horn is a copy of the Selmer Mark VI. I really enjoy playing it and it sounds pretty good. I play mostly jazz ballads and R&B. I've gotten a rich tone with deep undertones using a vandoren java red 2.5 or 3 and am able to bend notes. I get squeaks with a 2.0 or 1.5 java reds. I plan to upgrade the mouthpiece. The color is in between gold and copper. The case is nice and the neckstrap is ok. Overall, I'm happy with it. I'm too inexperienced to say whether it's a good value or durable enough for marching band. This brand isn't well established so the resale value probably won't be that good, but I plan to hang onto it so I'm not concerned with that.

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

I wanted something new to play and so I could leave my 60+ year old Selmer in the case. Some people said nothing would replace my Selmer and although I agreed, I wasn't going to spend $5K+ on a nice used horn. After much research and factfinding, I opted for a Chinese Tenor for $800. Great for the price but I wasn't thrilled with it so I returned it. Bought another and although it was better, I didn't feel it came close enough to my Selmer and returned that one as well. When I saw the Allora video I thought this might be the horn. More $$$ but rolled tone holes and double arms like another high end brand so I bought it and I am very happy with it. I recorded myself playing along with old R&R songs and Jazz and to my ear, it's very close to my ideal horn. It's suited towards Jazz (which is what I wanted it for)but with a mouthpiece/reed change you can get the sound you want.

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

This is a fantastic Tenor! The first things I noticed were the fluidness of the keys and that the tone is exceptionally smooth. It plays great across the full range of the instrument and the subtones are sweet. I love the dark gold finish and wish more instruments came in this color or even a couple shades darker. I'm playing a lot of blues and minor jazz improv, and having a great time on this Tenor. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality horn at a very really reasonable price. It has a hard-shell, compact, and conforming case that locks. It took me a minute to find the accessories compartment which is hidden in the bottom and has enough room for 2 mouthpieces, several reeds, neck strap, my cleaning kit, and a few small items. Just pack it smart, and not too tightly, or the case won't close well. Just a note: this has rolled tone holes and it's important to keep on top of your cleaning routine. That's true of straight tone holes as well but these have a little bit more surface area and you'll notice it if you don't clean your instrument. Rolled tone holes tend to give it a very smooth tone and the pads usually last longer but the trade off is that you need to keep up on your cleaning. Once every week or two has worked well for me, depending on how much play time I get in. I definitely give this 5 stars for sound, construction, and price. Love it!

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

I love this instrument. It has a wonderful warm tone to it. I am fairly new to the saxophone and find it very easy to play and get good sound out of. It has a beautiful finish to it as well. The keys are responsive. The case is awesome - very compact for the size of the instrument, yet it fits in it like a glove. Very sturdy case. Mine came with a mouthpiece and neck strap which was a pleasant surprise. I am very pleased with my purchase and would endorse it for players at any level.

    A Great Horn

Comments about Allora Chicago Jazz Tenor Saxophone:

This is a very playable instrument with a good round tone. I use an Otto Link mouthpiece and have an easy time putting air through it. This constitutes a step up for me from a "student" model to something much more civilized. If you can swing the bucks this is a great option. I am getting back into playing after a long period of inactivity. This horn makes it easy and enjoyable to play again.
