Allora Double Clarinet CaseThe Allora Double Clarinet Case features a nylon shell to keep out the water and wind. The plush interior is of dense foam and absorbs the most brutal of impacts. Two shoulder straps give you the option of attaching one to use as one shoulder strap, or both on the back for backpack style carrying. Two handles let you carry the case horizontally or vertically. It will take some time to get a full assessment of this case, but here are my initial thoughts.
* It is lightweight and easy to carry - approximately the size of my laptop case.
* It is a good deal compared to other cases.
The only improvements I would make initially are:
* Add zipper pulls - the zipper handles are very small.
* Create a more comfortable strap - one with a padded portion.
* There is a storage area outside the case that is large enough for music, but it would be nice to have one inside the case as well.
* Add a luggage tag (for ID) outside the case.
The double case I have been using had a faulty latch on it and you never knew if it would hold. I would carry my A clarinet in this case and my Bflat in my regular case. I only play the A clarinet once or twice a year and I did not feel I needed the more expensive and nicer cases. The Allora case was very nice for the price and both clarinets fit nicely. It has a zippered closure with a velcro flap over the zipper for added protection. The handle was padded and easy to carry. The shoulder strap is not very well padded and the compartment for the music is very tight but works for thin folders and music. It worked for me and I would recommend it for those who don't use their A clarinet much or don't have $200 plus for the nicer cases.
If you are looking for an affordable double case that has room for all your clarinet stuff that is lightweight, compact, and easy to carry, this is a great value for the money?especially at the price of at least one-half of many other double clarinet cases on the market.
I had another double clarinet case prior to this one which had various issues the Allora case does not. My old double clarinet case turned out to be too heavy for a carry onto flights with just my instruments and outside of the maximum dimensions, which the Allora case fits the maximum dimensions and was under the maximum weight allowed as a carry on on flights even with all my equipment. Even if you did have to put this case in the cargo hold, which is not recommended for musical instruments, it is much more airtight than other double clarinet cases. As well, it has four pockets for extra barreljoints (although I only have two barrejoints, my standard one and a back-up), and an extra strap. The hooks on the straps of the Allora case too, are metal, not plastic (unlike my old double case), making them likely to be much more durable in the long run; on my old double case they were plastic and broke in approximately a year.
Another nice feature of the Allora double case is that unlike many other clarinet cases, you can stand it on its end, making it easy to carry in tight spaces on all types of vehicles.
