Great for Beginners

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

This is my first Alto Saxophone. It is a beautiful horn and to my knowledge plays okay. The mouthpiece and ligature is not that great. I would recommend purchasing a nice mouthpiece and ligature with acceptable reeds. The octave key on the side and the Bb keys tend to stick sometimes. Overall, I think it is a great horn for the price and for beginning players. I would say you will be looking for a nicer horn as you improve your playing ability. Enjoy!

BEST QUALITY low-priced alto!

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

I bought 5 of these entry-level altos for my middle school Program. I teach in a community where many beginners who wish to play alto (hands large enough; good size lower lip and square-type jaw) - tell me their parents just cannot afford renting the horn from a music store. Clarinet or trombone... yes, but not the sax since it tends to be about double for a good used Yamaha or Prelude alto. This Allora pleased me greatly! With MY Selmer C* or Vandoren Optimum 4AL mouthpiece and Rovner ligature, I sat down with a 12-window chromatic tuner and found all notes to be centered and all had the similar pitch issues even my $7,000 Selmer Paris alto has - very sharp on high G# and A, and flat on open C#. Good saxophonists need to learn to lip these notes up or down by 7th/8th grade, and even use alternate fingerings. But the quality, tone, and pitch of the Allora surprised me! It performs more like a $700 beginning alto would, and the case is acceptable. Even though this Allora is $100 or so more than the very entry-level Etude alto, it is worth the extra $100, believe me! It is a much better alto. I plan to purchase 5 more of these to help with students in my beginning Program whose parents cannot afford renting an alto from a music store for $42/month (average rental price). My preferred pick would be the Conn-Selmer "Prelude" alto, but it is $300 more?

NOT A GOOD MARCHING HORN

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

I bought this horn just to have a cheap horn I can use in college marching band to avoid damaging my good horn. The intonation on the High A (1,2,Octave Key) and open C# is awful. The A is half a step sharp and the C# is half a step flat. Could be a faulty horn, but just a warning. Also, middle register notes did not always come out. I do not recommend this horn for use in a high school or college marching band.

Unbelievable!!!

Comments about Allora Student Series Alto Saxophone Model AAAS-301:

I am so impressed by this horn. It has great movement, solid sound and is a great looking sax! I bought this for my 12 year old daughter and was nervous on the quality because of the low price. I decided to take a chance and am very glad that I did!! I've played sax for almost 20 years and would recommend this horn for even a serious high school student! It would be a great back up for anyone! There was only one thing you may need to watch for, if you purchase this horn. The plastic protector on the octave stem is too thick. This causes the horn to be unplayable in the lower range. Thankfully I have a repair kit. I removed the protector, cut a piece of shrink wrap tubing, shrunk it onto the stem and it worked great!!! No problem!! Thus I'm still giving it 5 stars! If you don't have the capability of fixing this yourself, any music shop with minimal sax repair experience could fix this in minutes and should be inexpensive. With a price point this low, It's worth the added effort!
