Dear Amati, I want to thank you for the craftsmanship of my new Amati 615 II Full Boehm System Bb Clarinet (serial number 221695). Have had the clarinet for a week now, after purchasing it from "Woodwind Brasswind." So far, I am more than satisfied with the instrument. I play in orchestras and chamber groups. I currently own three Buffets. While I've been very satisfied with these fine instruments, I wanted to try something new for experimental purposes. After researching your company and the 615, I wanted to try the Full Boehm system you offer to see what it could do for my playing. So far, I am excited about the possibilities the new Amati offers. It is a beautiful instrument in appearance, and I like the bold company logos you've placed on the instrument (I think you should go so far as to place a gold-plated plaque on the top joint!). I like to look at it as much as play it. So far in my practice sessions, with the new instrument, what I admire and cherish the most is the keywork. While the Full Boehm system offers some challenges to my right and left little fingers, I think I will master the keys in a short while. Otherwise, the ease of playing the instrument in the most difficult passages amazes me. Please thank for me the person or persons involved in the making of my instrument. (see serial number above.) The name "Vacek," was on the card which came with the instrument. I don't know how much this person was involved in the construction of the instrument, but thank this person for me as well. However, please thank the people directly involved in making my instrument. They did a fine job, and I will thank them in my imagination every time I play it. Please express to them how much I appreciate the skill they have shown in the making of my instrument. Without such fine craftsmen/women in the world, I would be playing nothing more than a log with holes drilled in it. Give my best to your company and employees. Michael Vance McCauley
I thought you'd be interested in this page at WWBW! I purchased one and love the additional range and key flexibility. The low E-flat key also acts as an alternate B-flat fingering at the octave break. It has wonderful tonality throughout the entire range and wants to support an upper range C-sharp and D note above high C. The keys are silver plated and the instrument is about one to one and a half inches longer than a standard clarinet in total length. The silver plating is beautifully done and the instrument is a very impressive. Over all, there are 1-1/2 additional notes of range to work with. It allows note sliding or bending throughout the entire range. The only negative comment I may have is that the wood is not as polished on the surface and within the fitting joints as a Selmer, Buffet, or Leblanc. This instrument has abilities and features not found on others from Buffet, Leblanc, or Selmer. This is a wonderful product and a reasonable price.
I purchased the Amati full Boehm as a backup to my pre-war Buffet full boehm. Once you have become used to the advantages of the full Boehm system, it is hard to go back to a standard clarinet. The primary advantages are: 1) The LH Eb key, which has many uses, especially in jazz when you suddenly need to get from C to Eb; 2) The articulated G#/C#, which is surprisingly useful in sharp keys and fast concert band passages. The secondary advantage is the low Eb, which is never used except in orchestral music, but it provides a more resonant long B, and while the long Bb is not a "good" note, it can be used in fast passages. I find the Amati quality exceptional, much better than I expected. I am playing a Selmer C85 mouthpiece with Legere reeds, which gives excellent intonation. (I did not care for the Amati mouthpiece.) Two barrels are a nice touch. I have played a friend's Buffet R13 full Boehm, and the Amati feels and plays very much like it, much better than my old Buffet, actually. If all your friends are Buffet snobs, you can black out the Amati logos, I guess.
I've had my Amati 615II for some time now and I still am in love with it! I went from a Vito student model to a professional Selmer to a Amati and by far the Amati is the best instrument I've played so far. The Selmer had leaking issues (bore problems), and the Amati has no issues. Some say it may just be too shiny. I play 10-15 hours a week and the instrument has been perfect. I would recommend a new moutpeice for the instrument. I use a Selmer. I would not recommend a vandoren mouthpeice with it (tuning issues). The instrument plays with perfect clarity and I can reach my highest octaves in perfect tune (ie high G (8va)). I can also play the instrument's lowest notes in perfect tune and tone. The other instruments were awful for having tuning/tone issues, but the Amati has served me well. Depending on my reed choice (plastic vs wood), I can choose my barrel and be in perfect tune and clarity. The tone is absolutely beautiful in a orchestral setting. I can also play jazz songs and praise & worship very easily on this instrument. PS - the pads and corks are very high quality.
i like the way that amanti clarinets keep their luster and shinnyness (not a real word i suppose) but i like a clarinet with a low Eb lever, i have one on my bass clarinet and it is great for fast runs as a substitute for Bb, it is really nice and i would recomend it to anyone
