Real tubes plus a digital converter built in! The Aphex model 207D has the same great features as the acclaimed model 207 (true stereo REAL tube), but features a 24/96K digital output so you can connect directly to a sound card or other recording device digitally. A direct digital connection (AES-sp/dif) means no additional "A to D" conversion is needed for cleaner sound and accurate transfers. |

Aphex Model 207D
General Description The Model 207D is an audiophile quality tube mic preamp without the high cost usually associated with such products. It will meet or exceed the performance of preamps costing many times more. The Model 207D will reveal the subtlety and power of vintage condensers, ribbons, electrets, and popular dynamic mics. Even the world's most respected microphones will sound better. The instrument inputs also are quieter and have more gain, than conventional instrument preamps. The MicLim circuitry, previously only available in our flagship Model 1100 2 channel and Model 1788 8 channel mic preamps, makes the Model 207D virtually crashproof - making it a perfect front end for digital recorders. By combining the best traits of tube and solid state circuitry, the Model 207D captures a sound that is warmer, fuller and more true to life. Whether you are recording, mixing live, broadcasting or webcasting, the signal has to travel a long journey before its final delivery. So give your sound a great start with the Aphex Model 207D Tube Mic/Instrument Preamp. |

I have been using this unit for about two weeks now, and it's pretty smoking! I am an ex pro musician, and I have used some top notch tube gear in my day, and this piece definitely keeps up with the best of them. I'm not saying it sounds QUITE as good as a two thousand dollar piece of Tube gear, but I am saying that it is darn close, and it is a LOT cheaper! I am running the SP/DIF digital output into an MBox, and the difference in sound from going into the AUDIO inputs is HUGE. It's so much warmer and cleaner by using the digital input and bypassing the audio converters on the MBox. I am not a big fan of the mic pre's and digital conversion of the MBox (maybe MBox 2 is better?), but this piece allows you to bypass all of that stuff, and go straight from Mic Pre to software, and it works great!
The "Mic Lim" feature is also very cool...it acts like a compressor, allowing you to get more volume without distortion. It works great...I don't know why more products don't have this function. Great stuff!
