I bought a PRO 35 clip-on microphone about two months ago and have used it at several gigs since then. It is well-made, very dependable, and fairly lightweight.
I had used traditional mics and stands for many years until buying the PRO 35. Although the bit of weight added to the end of my trumpet's bell is noticeable, the freedom of movement a clip-on mic gives me is well worth the extra heft. The sound easily equals that of standard Shure mics the Shure 57 or 58 that I have used for years.
The only fault I can find is the length of the cable from the mic to the traditional mic cable end. The PRO 35's cable could stand to be a couple feet longer. I'm 5'8". When standing with my horn almost parallel to the ground, the PRO 35's cable is just barely touching the ground. If I go above parallel, I'm lifting the mic's connecting cables off the ground. It's not a huge issue for me, but if you're 6' or taller, you may want a mic with a longer cable.
One issue for some trumpet and trombone players is the inability to use a SoundBack, due to the lack of a mic and stand. If you're using a clip-on mic, make sure to get your horn properly adjusted in the horn monitors, otherwise you won't be able to hear yourself on a loud stage. If horn monitors aren't available, you might want to use a SoundBack with a normal mic and stand so you can hear yourself.
The only other problem is having to go back to using normal mics and stands when I'm playing with other bands!
Overall, I'm very happy with this mic. Audio-Technica has a good reputation among pro musicians, and the PRO 35 does not disappoint. In my opinion, this mic is a good choice for the average gigging trumpet player.
To be honest, I purchased this microphone because the price was right--low. I've used this mic for about ten years now with my Yanagisawa curved Soprano Sax and have no real complaints. The range is sufficient to my needs and the output to the board means that the mixer never has to struggle to get me in ballance with the ensemble.
The length of the cable from the mic itself to the preamp is more than long enough that I could leave the amp on the floor if I wanted, but I usually clip it to the back of my belt.
The lack of cable clips was an annoyance at first, but I dug out some extra cable clips from some old, chorded, phone headsets and drafted them into service so I no longer have any issues with cable management between the mic and the amp.
I've tried the AMT system and have to say that I like that better, but not by much.
