B-52 Prodigy FX Fails To Measure Up To Hype

After looking at several cd players/mixers I bought a Prodigy FX in November 2007. This unit is an impressive looking piece of equipment (looks "professional") with a ton of desirable features. It comes with an ATA travel case. At a gig the next month a cd became stuck in the right side cd player. Tried everything to eject the cd. Nothing worked. I had to continue the gig with only one side of the FX functioning. Returned it to place of purchase and no one there could eject the cd either. I was immediately given another new Prodigy FX. In 2008, the exact same thing happened again. This unit also developed a short in the receptacle connector that connects to the power cord (unit is out of warranty by this time). I purchased a cheaper version of the Prodigy FX, the Prodigy. The right side cd player jammed on the first day of use. There is a stated procedure (in the manual) for ejecting cd's that become stuck but this procedure doesn't always work. This unit has a tremendous amount of features (so many that I didn't get a chance to try them all) but too many components fail to operate the way they should for the price one pays for one of these units (ex. disc reader on one side of the unit that fails to read a cd but the other disc reader will). There are good features this unit has. With the track locator you can find a track (song) in two or three seconds even on MP3 cd's with over 120 songs, separate controls for mike volumes with effects, etc. With its reputation in the industry, I was surprised that B-52 would put an unproven product as the Prodigy FX on the market. This product doesn't live up to its hype. This is not the type of mixer/cd player that would allow a DJ to do a gig with confidence. The Prodigy FX is not a reliable unit and I could not recommend this to anyone let alone a DJ or anyone planning on working as a DJ. I will be trading my Prodigy FX and Prodigy in on some other DJ equipment. I now use an Apple computer, a Denon 1500 mixer, and a Denon HS 5500 media controller and player. However, if B-52 were to get all the bugs out of this unit, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.
