At one time or another I've played just about every major trumpet there is, including many of the super high dollar "boutique" brands. This JBX is the most responsive amazing trumpet I've ever played. You can feel it resonate in your hands when you play it, I've never experienced anything quite like it. All I can say is, "WOW!"
I have played mostly Bach Stradavarius silver trumpets most of my life and have tried many others. I love my trumpet because it got me through college and changed my life, so even though I usually have several trumpets around the house, I am always looking for something better. All I can say is Wow! This B&S JBX is incredible. I jut touch it and it plays. I went to a shop and tried al of the newest trumpets and found this one. I had not played in 6 months, yet each time I picked this one up I couldn't believe it. It is so easy to play and you can knock a wall down with it, yet is so light and responsive. I play it with a Monette B2 mouth piece and I am in love again.
I was looking for a trumpet for a film I'm scoring. The smooth warm Botti sound is what I seek. I had an 1941 Martin Committee, but the intonation was ugly and the valves leaked like a sieve. So I started on a sonic journey...play softer, use a 1.5 mouthpiece..the usual approach. I even pulled out my heavy horns (Courtois Evo I that weighs in at a whopping 6 pounds.) The sound was dark but as would be expected, colorless. Then I called John at WWBW and he suggested the Challenger II JBX. Ok so when it arrived I expected more of the same....but NO. This horn sounds like melted butter, rich and smooth. The sound is better than my Martin as it expresses each nuance with quick response and lighting fast valves. These valves are better than Getzen and Schilke..They are completely silent. The fit and finish are flawless. I was so excited to play this tone machine I highly recommend this horn for those seeking a smooth sensual jazz sound ala Botti or Christian Scott.
