I ordered the .8mm large black mouthpiece patches for my tenor saxophone that I have recently purchased. The work great! There is no more tooth pain, and no more worries of leaving tooth marks on my mouthpiece. I have discovered that the large ones also fit on a clarinet mouthpiece, so this was a double score for me because clarinet is my main instrument. I would recommend this product to every clarinetist and saxophonist out in the world! Great product: 5 stars!
I've found that over the years, sensitive teeth really hinder my performance, especially during long rehearsals such as I.M.E.A.s and band camps. I usually buy the two-pack of the large black mouthpiece guards and use one for my tenor and one for my clarinet. They work very well, but they never last me long. The one on my tenor usually wears through within two to three weeks, and the one on my clarinet loses its 'stick' within eight weeks and slides off. Even so, I feel that these are a good buy and they are inexpensive, so I can afford to buy more if, and when, I need them.
IGot two of these patches...the thick ones...and it made playing a lot easier on my teeth. Mine are really sensitive, and after a certain amount of playing, it really becomes annoying. These mouthpiece patches are really effective in minimizing the effect of playing for those who have sensitive teeth. The only drawback is that they don?t last too long. After about 2 weeks, I went right through it and had to replace it.
After many plays in different groups, these patches have held up strong. They are very durable and help to evenly distribute the pressure of the teeth on top of the mouthpiece. I purchased the smaller clear patches and have yet to have any trouble out of them. Definitely a good buy for beginning students to help them to understand the placement of the teeth. Also doesn't hurt to preserve the mouthpiece.
They offer an inexpensive solution to tooth pain. I use the black ones--they seem to work better for me. I'd suggest trying one of each to see how they work for you.
