Bach 180SM Stradivarius Series Bb TrumpetThe medium bore Bach trumpets allow for a lighter sound with less effort. The .453" bore makes playing a lot easier yet the #37 bell still gives that great, solid Bach sound. Please Note: All Bach trumpets and cornets come with 1st valve slide hook, 3rd valve slide ring, case, and mouthpiece, unless otherwise specified.

After some expensive trumpet crusades involving owning/selling or play testing multiple professional trumpets I finally found the balance of sound and ease of play I wanted in the Bach 180M. I've used this as my primary trumpet for both orchestra and solo work since 2006, with my trumpet receiving a professional valve alignment and more open leadpipe over the standard 25 pipe (you can special order the 25-O pipe if you want, or find something similar from a restoration shop). The sound is sweeter/richer sounding than the ML Strad with the 37 bell, yet still has a nice brilliance when played with a medium cup mouthpiece like the Bach 3C. With the open leadpipe, this trumpet plays well above the staff and doesn't push back like many medium bore horns I tried. The resistance is moderate (more than the 37 ML version Bach), but consistent in both low and high range in this configuration. The Medium bore won't accept quite the same amount of air as its ML bore cousin (or generate the same maximum volume), but I find the sound of the 38 bell with the Medium bore the most satisfying tone quality. This trumpet is ideally suited for someone who wants to control their dynamics, articulation, and air and still get a great sound. If you like the sound of the Strad trumpet with those classic overtones, but had resorted to playing cornet for the control gained, the Bach 180M is a great choice. Intonation is very good, on par with other Bach's I've played. This trumpet would also work well for older or younger players if a horn of this level was what you wanted. What stands out most about this trumpet -- the sound!
