Anyone concerned about how this Stradivarius 182 plays relative to the Elkhart-produced 180 series will be greatly relieved once they play this new model. The 182 is the most open, responsive and colorful sounding Bach Bb Strad I've played out of the box. I was certain I wanted a new 180-series (180-37), but then I played the 182 model. The standard weight bell with the light weight body is more responsive and the horn had noticeable less internal resistance then the standard 180-series models I've played, it was a refreshing change to the heavier weight Bach I was used to playing. The sound is classic Bach, with a lot of mid-range overtones. I've played the 180-37, 180-43, and the LR series...after I played the 182 it become my personal favorite due to the sound quality and responsiveness. Since the Stradivarius production from the Ohio plant is still relatively new (where the 182 is made), I've heard of some valve alignment issues, but believe this has been corrected -- the trumpet I played had good valve & 1st/3d slide action and a very tight main tuning slide tolerance. If there are any problems with the valves you'll know it right away and WWBW has a fantastic return policy. I hope Bach keeps the quality of production at the highest possible level, it is a great player and fits well in nearly every type of setting - it blends within a section of 180-37's and sounds great for solo work as well. It?s a great player! Best of luck in finding your own Holy Grail trumpet!
Plays like a brighter and faster full fat strad 37.
The only thing I can add to the earlier reviews is that my 182 has the smoothest, tightest valves I have ever used. The first time I played the horn I actually blew the end crook out of the third valve slide by pulling it in without pushing down the piston. That's tight my friends! The sound is brighter than my beloved old Strad 72L, and works better for Big Band lead.
I am a highschool trumpet player and had been playing for about 6 years on a hand me down student trumpet. I was ready to take the next step with my musical career and I knew I wanted a Bach. This is the BEST horn i believe you can buy for the amount of money they are selling it for. I have heard stories and rumors about these newer models not being the same as older models. It is simply not true. My studio lesson teacher has a Bach custom and my new hron souinds better of not as good as hers. Every thing is in perfect, mint condition and i have had no trouble after a couple months and i don't forsee any problems. It's a great horn, and don't be scared off by the rumors!
