Bach 42BO Stradivarius Series F Attachment TromboneThe Bach 42BO Stradivarius Series F Attachment Trombone is a best seller and the ideal instrument for both advanced students and professional trombonists. An open wrap design results in fewer bends in the tubing, which creates a free-blowing trombone. The 42BO with a .547-inch bore and 8.5-inch bell produces a large, symphonic sound with clear projection. Included with this Bach Stradivarius F Attachment Trombone is a case and mouthpiece. The 42BO Series features an open wrap F attachment section. The open wrap offers a more uniform sound, so when the trombone player uses the F attachment the sound is not different from the sound of the trombone without engaging the trigger. Bach Stradivarius trombones are famous for their fullness of sound and projection. This is achieved by use of one-piece construction, allowing for unrestricted vibration of the bell. In addition to the shape of the bell flare, the type and thickness of the bell material also affect the sound. Gold brass, which is softer with a red tint-due to a higher copper content-results in a warm tone. Silver plated bells create a full complement of partials, or overtones, in the tonal spectrum for a focused sound with great projection. Trombones with a heavyweight bell in yellow or gold brass can be special ordered for a player needing an instrument for situation involving dark qualities or high dynamic levels without distortion. Lightweight handslides, denoted by LT before the model number, indicates a handslide made of nickel silver. The weight of the slide has been reduced by using nickel silver tubing on the outer slide tubes. Lightweight slides offer a quicker response than traditional yellow brass slides, and are also more resistant to corrosion.

I own a 42BOG with the lightweight slide and gold brass bell and its unbelievable, the only problem I have so far is the clanky rotor.
The Bach 42 is an amazing piece of equipment, one of the most common professionally used orchestral trombones in the world. Has a huge sound that can really fill up a performance hall, yet it blends perfectly with other instruments in an orchestra or wind band. Performs very well at extreme dynamics, tone still stays solid even at ff-fff and pp-ppp. The open wrap F attachment helps keep your tone consistent with the valve open vs. closed, and the valve action itself is very smooth and quick. I've heard people say that they're had issues with it, such as a stuffy high range and somewhat slow response. While I have noticed these somewhat, they aren't very noticeable and they aren't a big deal. Honestly, if you feel like you absolutely need something better than this, you just need to practice more. On a side not, while the included 6-1/2A mouthpiece is nice, I would recommend getting a larger mouthpiece, especially for orchestral playing. I use a Bach 4G with my 42, and it really takes any edge off of the tone and makes it blend just perfectly. Still projects great for solo work too.
I've been playing this horn for a little more than 3 years now and it has done nothing but good for me. Only complaint I have is my trigger has an annoying click when I push it. I don't know if it;s just my horn or what but other than that, it's an amazing horn and absolutely recommend it.
All I can say is that this instrument is worth it! Hands down no questions asked! I have had a student trombone for almost 10 years and I have made a wonderful purchase on a trombone that will last me years to come! Although expensive, if you are serious about your music, this is worth it all!!
I've really enjoyed playing this horn as a collegian. It has a large bore and definitely takes a LOT of air. I found it to take a lot more air than, say, the yamaha xeno.... but I also found the tone to be MUCH richer and appealing to the ear.
