This is the best C trumpet I have ever played. I wish it had been available in the 60's when I was starting out. Slotting and resonance from bottom to top register are very even. The intonation is much better than any C trumpet I have played. The sound is brilliant and focused. There is a quick response and light playing is very easy. On soft playing the sound is compact and cornetlike. Because the horn projects so well, it is not necessary to blow hard or play as loud as on "bigger","darker" horns. When blown hard, it puts out a lot of sound with tremendous projection. Because of the lightweight bell, it feels almost like an Eb trumpet to hold. This horn should work well in a quintet and for solo work as well as in an orchestra.
I couldn't agree with Ernst more. I also have played the Yamaha Chicago C and it too is an excellent horn. I went to NYC Yamaha on 5th ave for their Day of Trumpets event.
I had the privelege to play the Bach Chicago side by side vs. the Bach Philadelphia, Bach 180, Bach 229 H, Yamaha Xeno, Yamaha Chicago, and Yamaha New York. No other horn resonated in my left hand like the Bach Chicago. I compared it with the Yamaha Chicago quite a bit, and the Yamaha just felt inferior. It definitely isn't worth the extra $1000 dollars than the Bach. I played plenty of scales and the E and Eb are about as good as they'll get on a C trumpet. In the end, I walked out with no regrets!
This is a terrific horn. Yes, at first it feels tight, but don't force it for a couple of days to a week and let your body adjust. The resistance is even, slots great and it has a glorious sound. The pitch is excellent; the only bad notes on mine are high A and Bb, both of which are quite sharp. Try one for a week and have a fellow musician go out in the hall and compare its sound with what you are currently playing; chances are you'll keep it and love it.
I have had this trumpet for over a year now. Ever time I pick up this trumpet it makes me love with playing all over again. This trumpet has a brilliant ring to the sound especially when you need it. It plays and sounds like a Bach in every way. I have played in many churches and in many different concert halls and I am never disappointed. Every person I let try it out is instantly wanting to buy one.....By far the best C, if not the best trumpet I have ever owned.
