"Wonderful in every way!"

I have had this trumpet for over a year now. Ever time I pick up this trumpet it makes me love with playing all over again. This trumpet has a brilliant ring to the sound especially when you need it. It plays and sounds like a Bach in every way. I have played in many churches and in many different concert halls and I am never disappointed. Every person I let try it out is instantly wanting to buy one.....By far the best C, if not the best trumpet I have ever owned.

I compared this horn extensively with the Philly, Artisan, and the Yamaha Chicago. Ultimately, I purchased the Artisan, but it was a tough choice and mostly personal taste. The Chicago, first of all, is a phenomenal horn. Fantastic response, projection, and sound. It has the natural brilliance a C should have, at all dynamics, but also has an intrinsic warmth that makes it great for more lyrical lines as well. It's quite in tune compared to standard line Bachs, and feels open and easy to blow, while being far more efficient than the 25H pipe. The Philly, in comparison, is a little harder to light up and project with. For someone with a naturally brighter sound it might be the way to go, or maybe a section player. The extra heft from the heavier bell could help in lower parts. The Artisan is subtly different; it is a little tighter, with more defined slots. Articulations have incredible ring; no other C has matched its clarity and projection of articulations. Its sound is distinctly Bach, but different from the Chicago. It has more weight and depth to my ear, but is perhaps a little harder to shape. The Yamaha, while superior, was not worth $1000+ more than the others, in my opinion. For a full time symphony player it probably would be, mostly for the intonation. You can't go wrong with any of these horns, it just depends on you.

"Possibly the best trumpet I've ever played or owned"

This is a terrific horn. Yes, at first it feels tight, but don't force it for a couple of days to a week and let your body adjust. The resistance is even, slots great and it has a glorious sound. The pitch is excellent; the only bad notes on mine are high A and Bb, both of which are quite sharp. Try one for a week and have a fellow musician go out in the hall and compare its sound with what you are currently playing; chances are you'll keep it and love it.

"Bach Chicago C"

This is the best C trumpet I have ever played. I wish it had been available in the 60's when I was starting out. Slotting and resonance from bottom to top register are very even. The intonation is much better than any C trumpet I have played. The sound is brilliant and focused. There is a quick response and light playing is very easy. On soft playing the sound is compact and cornetlike. Because the horn projects so well, it is not necessary to blow hard or play as loud as on "bigger","darker" horns. When blown hard, it puts out a lot of sound with tremendous projection. Because of the lightweight bell, it feels almost like an Eb trumpet to hold. This horn should work well in a quintet and for solo work as well as in an orchestra.

"Excellent horn"

I had the privelege to play the Bach Chicago side by side vs. the Bach Philadelphia, Bach 180, Bach 229 H, Yamaha Xeno, Yamaha Chicago, and Yamaha New York. No other horn resonated in my left hand like the Bach Chicago. I compared it with the Yamaha Chicago quite a bit, and the Yamaha just felt inferior. It definitely isn't worth the extra $1000 dollars than the Bach. I played plenty of scales and the E and Eb are about as good as they'll get on a C trumpet. In the end, I walked out with no regrets!
