"1D and1E mouthpices are great"

I?m sure you all have heard that using mouthpieces like a 1D or a 1E kill your embouchure after a few minutes. I have had the two mouthpieces for a few days and they are great. It does bust your chops but it took about an hour or more even after I came from a practice.

"Bach 3C"

The Bach 3C is a great mouthpiece for playing fourth chair in Jazz or concert pieces...but highly recommend to not play lead in Jazz on it, it is a chop buster! So if you play on a 3C I suggest you also have a 3E mouthpiece if you play lead. This is a good beginner mouthpiece as well the 7C...and if your coming back to the horn after not playing it for years a 3C is the best one to get your chops going again, and that?s all the advice I have on the Bach mouthpieces. Overall it?s a GREAT mouthpiece I highly recommend it for anyone!

"7BW, The "screamer" for the New Age"

by Justin Jerrell Jordan - 1/28/2009 9:45:19 AM  Share

7 years of Trumpet Playing Jazz, Brass Band, Concert Band Monticello, Florida

I?m sure when someone mentions a ?screamer? mouthpiece the 7BW doesn?t come in mind, but it should! Standard ?screamer? mouthpieces are notorious for poor tone, horrible intonation, and bottoming out (when your lips touch the bottom of the mouthpiece causing your lips to stop vibrating). Anyone can blast ugly high register notes with a tiny, shallow mouthpiece with a tight bore but the number one thing a trumpet player should always strive for is good tone even if range is more important to them personally. That?s were the 7BW comes in to satisfy those two very different areas. The current 7BW model is roughly 16.50mm in diameter making it a medium-small mouthpiece by today?s standard. A medium-small mouthpiece produces easy high register notes and fabulous endurance (satisfying the range WANT *range is almost always a want and rarely a need*) Combine this with the medium-deep B cup and large #7 backbore for a full rounded tone; you got the makings for a great mouthpiece. However the extreme high register is hard to push out with the flare and brilliance of a lead or solo players with a fairly deep cup and large backbore and the wide (W) rim is needed to help with the endurance issue that may arise when such roles are attempted to be filled. Nevertheless for most high register and commercial needs the 7BW is a logical selection to balance the need for tone and the want for an extreme high register.

"Best mouthpieces there are"

by Bert - 1/28/2009 9:45:19 AM  Share

These are the best overall mouthpieces, and can be used in both classical and jazz. A 3C/3E combo works very well; the 3C can be used for soloing in jazz or classical music, and the 3E is a good lead mouthpiece. The 3E is hard to get used to at first and you get tired easily, but after practicing on it for about a week it becomes much easier to play on. These mouthpieces have a good open sound as well, with plenty of volume.
