Bari reeds are the best reeds I have ever used. I use them on my alto, tenor and soprano. I use my alto the most and have used the same reed for over four years and still going giving a great sound.
It's a little harder than excpected, but it looks like it's going to last forever. Very warm sound in the low register, a little "plastic" sound in the higher notes.
I think it's going to be my practice reed.
I was very skeptical about trying out a synthetic reed, but figured it couldn't hurt anything. I received it today, and based off of the reviews I've heard of synthetic reeds, was expecting to have to use our entire jazz class to break in a new cane reed. From the very first note I was blown away. I'm able to hit notes with this reed I wasn't able to hit before at extreme dynamics. It's really great. I love this reed.
Bari and Bari Star reeds produce a controlable spectrum of tones, dynamics, and subtle nuances over the entire sax range from warm bell tones to strong full top tones and altissimos. They record well, and respond quickly to staccatos, and wide ranging tongued and slurred intervals. What's more, they have a long life and never die in the middle of a performance! Their stability and resilience are a help for students having difficulty establishing an embouchure, or squeaking on conventional reeds. Take care attaching and adjusting them to the mouthpiece as they need to be positioned in the best place for individual jaw and lip differences.
I'm just going to have to say that this reed worked a miracle for me. I was looking for the perfect 'feel' when playing, (a feel that just tells you everything is right and your not going to squeak.) and Bari Star finally gave me that feel. When I first blew with this reed, it was like magic: altissimo notes never squeaked again, and blowing was so easy and free that I could hold notes and music phases much longer without the feel of running out of air. I was so happy because I had been search for the right reed that would be easy to blow with. I've Vandoren and a bunch of other reeds with high densities of 3 or 3.5: they helped but they much altissimo so much harder than the thinner reeds. With Bari Star, not only does the reed never die out but it makes blowing and altissimo notes so much easier. If your looking for a reed that'll make playing easier and more fun, Bari Star is for you.
