Amazing horn for a pittance

When I first heard about these Barrington saxophones a few months ago, I figured they were the typical cheap Yani or Yamaha knock-off horns those shifty eBay sellers post for .99 shipping from Taiwan or China. I was completely wrong. The soprano I ordered came in a great hard-shell case and the horn itself played about a 6 out of 10 straight out of the box after being "handled" by FedEX. After being properly set-up (action, key height, and being checked for leaking pads) by my local repairman the horn played equally as well as any intermediate Yamaha, Selmer USA, or Jupiter I had ever played. Intonation, tone, and the action is a 8 out of 10. I perform on Yamaha horns and actually prefer the sound of this soprano to that of the Yamaha 62 series sopranos (It's a bit on the brighter side than the 62 that I play). I don't recommend this as a primary horn for a professional saxophonist, but if you occasionally need a soprano on a gig, have a student looking to try soprano, or need a backup sax, you should definitely play test one of these horns.
