I have been using the Bay B-flat clarinet ligature (silver-medium) for years, and it is excellent. Many of my students have used them as well. Teachers need to make sure that students do not over-tighten the screws. The ligature material is rather thin, which allows for maximum reed vibration. Well worth the price.
Very fine response, perfectly predictable. I have one for the Bb, and one for the Bass. It will make a winner out of an ordinary reed. Even better with a great reed.
I didn't want to like this one. But I decided to try it since I'd seen so many of them around and wow I had to buy it. It feels very free and allows the reed to resonate well- NO dampening here. Just be careful with it! and keep in mind you'll have to shape the metal around the reed a bit. If you're a pro, you'll love it.
I needed a larger ligature than my Gigliotti to fit a new custom mouthpiece made by Brad Behn. Brad suggested the Bay ligature in a medium size (it's also available in small) to fit the larger circumference of his mouthpiece.
The Bay reverse ligature has a lightweight band, high quality screws and a nice ornamental design.
I found it to sound freer and of higher quality than the BG Revelation, "H" ligature (now sold by Rico) and Van Doren Optimum. It's even better than my original Gigliotti, which I played on for many years.
