First off, so you know, I'm an old-fart professional musician/teacher/luthier with decades of experience; I've gigged with some famous folks been active in the biz all my life and have played/tested more amps than I can possibly count---I'm not basing this on whether the amp was good for one sound or from an inadequate knowledge of how to turn a knob. The fact is, this amp is KILLER at its price as far as sound goes; I've seen nothing that comes close within $250 of its cost. It's LOUD, the speakers seen to crunch without much mud and the clean sound is very reminiscent of an old Twin. Obviously, out of the 27 different combos claimed for it, only a few will end up being used (I suspect that I myself will use 3 or 4 max), but they're WONDERFUL. So WHY did Behringer do a couple of what to my mind are DUMB things? I admit that by buying a MIDI foot controller you can alleviate some of the effects bugs, but some of us may not want to clutter up the floor onstage too much. Okay---no way to scroll thru the digi FX on the footswitch. A price vs features quibble. Four compressor patches that seem to do almost nothing (where's the sustain?), and worst of all aren't combined with any chorus/reverb for the kind of long wet/modulated clean chord sustain most of us want. Actually, the quality of most of these FX is VERY nice and the pitch transposed ones are better than a lot of straight rack effects---but why no way to edit the pitch intervals? K--I recognize that most of these ARE just quibbles; the fact that the FX are there and sound so good is a BIG credit to Behringer, certainly not enough of an annoyance to ME to make me return the amp. What MAY make me return the amp is this: WHY do the INTERNAL speakers DISCONNECT when you hook up EXTERNAL speakers? That's just dumb. Most of us want to be able to monitor ourselves on stage as well as stick a couple of cabinets out to the side for stereo FX. If you just want to create an 8x12" stack, why even bother with the internal 12s--just make a head. Impedance issues are NOT hard to deal with, and it seems a complete waste of two perfectly good Jensen 12s to have them UNUSED if you're using a couple of ext. cabs---plus the extra weight of carrying around the amp with its internal 12s makes this seem REALLY dumb.
Got this amp just before the price increase. For the money there isn't a better amp in it's price range. This amp has plenty of power,it's loud, and although you would need their midi pedal to access more than one effect at a time per channel, it's still one hell of an amp. One advantage is that you can set each channel to the type of effect you want and can switch between them. So if you want one channel to sound like a Marshall and the other a Fender you can set it up that way. Other effects can be added via your favorite foot pedals. Isn't that what you would do if you were using one of those amps? Try it you won't be sorry. You'll get a lot of Bang for the Buck!
I was looking around for a good amplifier to use in a band situation. This was it. For the money, you cannot get anything better than this. You can get some really dynamic high-gain tones out of this puppy, and some really beautiful cleans, especially with the use of the onboard effects; which contrary to popular belief, are actually quite incredible. This amp is incredible for every type of music, and can easily handle the abuse of a Metal-like situation. As far as tone goes. . .well as I said, the analog modeling makes any tone desirable easy to achieve. So bottom line: Don't waste your time on anything else, just buy this now, no matter what kind of music you play, it owns. as far a construction goes this amp is indestructible. Our drummer knocked it over and it crashed to the floor. . not a scratch or any problem of any sort. Virtually indestructible. Behringer was a brand that I initially shied away from due to their incredibly low price, I figured that if it was that cheap, it must be a piece of crap. Boy was I wrong.
At first I thought this amp was a piece of crap...The distortion on it stinks, the clean however sounding amazing. It really bothered me that the distortion sounded so bad and couldn't be played at high volumes because it would just feed back like crazy. However, I found the trick! Pick up a Digitech grunge pedal. This thing sounds so amazing now! Its loud, crisp and let me tell you..this thing cuts right through the band like you wouldn't believe. I can play my leads as well as rhythm parts and be heard loud and clear with tons of room to spare. I have it turned up to almost 5. Overall, this amp is definitely the best you can get for the price. Behringer is really making a great name for themselves. If you need a loud portable amp to gig with..this is the amp for you.
Great sound, useful built-in effects/effects-loop, clean channel could be a bit stronger but considering the price you can NOT ask for more. Best guitar amp buy ever available!
