I have been playing both jazz and classical for about 30 years; jazz is my primary focus now. This carved-wood bass is an upgrade for me from my laminated bass I've had for twenty-five years. This is a great bass for the money. I fell in love with the look of the particular bass I picked out; the violin corners, and richness of the color, and the details. But more importantly, I fell in love with the way it felt, the way it responded, and the sound it projected. For me, it's an "easy" bass to play, both pizzicato and arco. I'm not a big person with big hands, so the feel is important to me. The size of the neck is comfortable for me, and I'm very happy with how responsive it is. I did have some adjustments made by my bass luthier, and replaced the strings with a set of Obligatos (my favorite), to improve upon some details I needed for my style of playing jazz with this bass. I use a Realist pick-up, and found this to be a great combination to get the most natural sound from my bass. I've had this bass for three years now, and it's improving with age. It's my new buddy. The sound is getting richer. I've had many comments about how beautiful it is, and how beautiful the sound is. Just this weekend I performed at the 2010 Elkhart Jazz Festival, and had several professional jazz artists (several bassists) comment that they "liked my sound," and how my bass looked, and liked the bass when they tried it out themselves.
