This is a standard band room mouthpiece puller... used them hundreds of times in the past 20 years as a band director, and they work GREAT!
Started with an old Thompson mouthpiece puller... too many pieces (collars for every shank size). Used a DEG puller for a while... tended to slip off the receiver on tightly stuck mouthpieces... The Bobcat puller works extremely well and hardly ever fails to pull even the tightest stuck mouthpiece. It does not slip off when placed correctly and tightened properly (gradually and evenly on both cranks) I've used mine for 27 years (I think) and if a Bobcat won't pull it, send it to the shop, because no other puller is more effective. My music store road rep. agrees, too. It's money well spent.
I keep breaking the little red plastic knobs! They are VERY fragile--just drop it once, and you'll find out!
I've had the Bobcat Mouthpiece puller for about five years now and it successfully pulled about ten mouhtpieces. However, recently, in two cases, this mouthpiece puller could not pull the mouthpieces from the trumpets. Therefore I cannot recommend this item - it only worked 80% of the time - for me that was not worth the money.
The problem is that the little plates, held together by the red screws, keep loosening - the moutpiece puller then slides over the leadpipe and possibly even damages it.
