After using a Kun rest for about four years, I switched to the Bon Musica. I immediately noticed that there was very little that I could not adjust. Most parts on the rest can be bent to fit your shoulder, and clings onto your shoulder very well; however, the nuts that hold the fork members are not too secure. After using my rest for about 14 months, both sets of nuts are loose, allowing the fork member to pivot on another axis. This causes the rest to grip the violin not as tightly, so sometimes it will simply fall off of the violin when I am finished playing.
The "thing" has helped me immensely. It is all adjustable and bendable. It has stabilized and immobilized the instrument so I can full concentrate on the violining. Finally, after 30 years of clutching, shifting, slipping, wandering away, squirting out, sagging etc. Bon musica to the rescue. The comfort is heavenly, I am reborn.
I've observed my daughter through 10 years of playing. She's never complained of shoulder or neck pain while using the Bonmusica. She found it infinitely more comfortable than other rests. However, it tends to position the violin a little too far forward on the shoulder and caused her to develop some bad habits with her bowing as well as to change the projection of sounds she was producing. It's very comfortable, but be careful with this one.
I've taught/played violin/viola for 20 years. Hands down, this is the best shoulder rest I have ever used/tried. Dozens of my students get it, all love it. Bye-bye Kun, Mach 1, Wolf, etc. Pricey and worth every penny...
