This is the best ligature I have tried so far. It gives me wonderful and clear sound as well as good articulation. The sliding up the mouthpiece problem is easily fixed when you moist the reed well enough and slightly push down on the ligature when you are tightening the screw. And after a while you don't even need to do that, it will just stay still. It is an awesome ligature and the price is not bad either
I have been playing a Bonade Clarinet Ligature since 1956. It is an okay ligature, but nothing as fine and wonderful as the advertisements. The PROS are - the ligature holds the reed on the mouthpiece without it changing position or even falling off to the floor! The construction and finish is superb. The biggest draw back (CON) is that the ligature is delicate and will bend very easily.
I purchased the Bonade ligature after reading that it had a great sound and was affordable. What wasn't mentioned in the reviews I read was that it slips on the mouthpiece. Mine slipped so much that it was unplayable. It also left scratches in my expensive mouthpiece which I found very unsatisfactory. Not recommended.
I have owned 3 Bonade Bb ligatures throughout my musical career. My first two were inverted, and both of them were stepped on by fellow students and crushed. I have noticed that some of the inverted ligatures tend to "ride-up" on your mouthpiece. If this happens to you, return the ligature at once. my current ligature is front-facing and hence has no 'riding' problems. The ligature has a solid sound and is an excellent value. Bonade is indeed a professional level ligature, in fact, two members of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra use these ligatures, as does Karen Meffert-Nelson, the principle clarinet and bass clarinet player for the Minnesota Opera.
Wow! This ligature is a great deal! I tried this for a lesson and instantly got rid of my squeaks and improved my sound a bit. Highly recommend this to whoever has trouble squeaking because too tight of a ligature.
