I really dig this Brilhart 3*. It's very open and it projects great. Although it can be thin on the lower register, it really sings in the upper register. You get a Charlie Parker/Sonny Stitt/Cannon Ball Adderley type of sound. I play it through my Selver Mark VI. As we all know, there's no such thing as a perfect mpc. Whats good for some may not be good for others. But, I dig Brilhart. Cheap price with a really good sound!
Easy to play, responsive, good tonal qualities. The 3 * has been my favorite for longer than I want to admit. I am ordering a new one since they don't last much over 30 years.
I bought a vintage Ebolin 3 and I was very proud of my purchase. I used to play the Meyer 6M, which is a very fine piece. However, the Ebolin sung a little more and had a crisper tone around the middle of the register. Good for a West Coast or a traditional BeBop approach, but is very versatile can be used at any time. What a price too.
These are some awsome mouthpieces, I have two that's more than 50-yrs old and so I should get some ones; No. 3 alto sax and No. 4 clarinet. My vintage models are made of hard rubber. I purchased a new No. 4 for my clarinet and it performs every bit as good as my vintage model. For those looking for a vintage sound, here's a good place to start. They handle temprature and humidity changes quite well since they are made out of plastic Highly Recommended!!
