I use this on both jazz and classical. I'm a professionl musician and I quit messing around with all of the expensive metal mouthpieces and now this is the only one I use!
Very thin reed! Size 2 seems to be working best!
I own a vintage Brilhart Ebolin 5* and these mouthpieces have wonderful tone. I rencently played on my cousins modern mouthpiece and it literally sounds identical to mine. These are excellent mouthpieces for people looking for a truly vintage sound.
People like to slam these mouthpieces stating they are only good for students, but allow me to mention just a few names here, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Stan Getz; all of them used Brilhart Ebolin mouthpieces, oh, and they were all plastic.
So, you can't go wrong with these. They are an excellent choice for Jazz musicians. They procuce a very warm, dark sound that can really growl when you need it.
This thing packs a huge punch for its price, it can bend notes like you wouldnt imagine. It gives a warm, fat, round tone that most mouthpieces dont give that much of. It used to be used by Bird at one point so its a very good mouthpiece. Its not good for classical at all though, you can tell its a jazz mouthpiece when it sounds out of tune when your playing a classical piece. Its great. Words cannot explain the love between me and my Brilhart Ebolin.
This was one of the first mouthpieces I bought back in the 70's. It played a bit brighter and louder than the C* Selmer I was using. I still have my 4* and have since moved on to other mouthpieces but occasionally I'll bring it to a gig or jam session and get some nice thick dark tones on the ballads and some raunchy growl and altissimos when I want. One guy playing a very pricy metal mouthpiece was amazed at the great tone this inexpensive plastic mouthpiece could get. It is good for dark Classical to R&B, depending how you use it.
