I got 2 mouthpieces from WWBW, one Dukoff D7 and one Brilhart Level Aire 8. At first, I bought this mouthpiece because of the price, and I had the intention to sell it in Brazil. After playing both, Dukoff had a brighter tone (amazing), but Level Aire had a shinning high notes with full tone and a lot of low notes sub tones, not present in Dukoff D7 (also amazing). So, I changed my mind to keep it as an option to Dukoff for softer playing and use Dukoff for rock/fusion style. Both are easy blowing, easy high harmonics and low notes. It?s important to buy a good ligature together, like Rovner (the stock ones scratches the piece). By the way, international shipping with FithyOne worked great for me!
This is an incredible mpc! I recently play-tested about 20 tenor mpcs from WWBW including top models like Link, Jody Jazz ESP, Van Doren Java/Jumbo Java/V16, etc. This mpc (and a Runyon metal mpc I tested) stood out as a total winner, far superior to the others I tested. The Brilhart Level Air is extremely responsive throughout the horn using a Rico Royal #3 reed and has a beautiful, powerful sound which can blend well with a sax section and will also project easily for solo work. The tone is darker without the removable baffle in, but either way the tone is very full and gorgeous. The sound I got with the other mpcs I tested was either too stuffy, had too much edge, was too bright or too thin, or they didn't play well down low. This is a truly great mpc that I highly recommend you try if you are not happy with your setup and you want a big, gorgeous sound. The price is also very good.
Richness of sound and playability are on par with my other top players, incl my Ponzol M2, Guardala Super King, and Jody Jazz DV, and its relatively low price and lack of aggressive promotion make this an unheralded sleeper. The baffles, however, are of inconsistent quality and fit. I returned my first one for exchange, because the baffles would not lock in place and kept falling out. Same problem with the second one, but I took a chance and filed and sanded them so that they fit perfectly. Don't do this unless you're prepared to screw up the baffles (they're cheap plastic) and render them non-refundable if you don't like your results. If you get one with good baffles, you may really like the ability to change your sound with these baffles. They really do facilitate altissimo playing, but careful, they're easy to lose unless you decide to epoxy them in place.
The Brilhart Level Air is a wonderful mouthpiece that provides a rich full sound from the very bottom to the highest altissimo note you wish to tackel. The only problem I have encountered is keeping plating on the mouthpiece. Do to plating issues,I am about to order my third mouthpiece in one year. I have spoke with Selmer, they are unaware of any problem, so I am going to try again. The Level Air is a perfect match to my 1949 Buescher Top Hat & Cane tenor and if I could keep the plating on it I would be ever happier.
I am a studant in a school jazz band, and i was playing on a classical mouthpiece, and wanted to get an edgy tone that sounded different from the classical mouthpiece. I got this moutpiece and was blown away by the great edgy tone that every high school jazz player wants. It has a clear and different sound than the classical mouthpieces, and if your an amateur player like myself, and want to get a jazzier tone, this is a good mouthpiece to try out. Also, it is soooo easy to hit high notes (highest D and higher) and easy to hit the low notes too. On this mouthpiece you can blast the sound, or back off for a soft tone during balads. this is a great mouthpiece
