Buffet Crampon B12 Student Bb Clarinet
The B12 clarinets are made from ABS resin with an appearance and sound similar to that of genuine grenadilla wood. These models are lightweight, strong and easy to clean. They are perfect for even very young players.

The B12 model has a very attractive and traditional design with nickel-plated body rings, straight keywork and a traditional bell ring. The body is buffed to give the appearance of wood.

The nickel silver keywork is cold forged and induction soldered, providing great stability, precision and quality. The B12 model is mounted with double fish skin pads which ensure excellent sealing.

The first notes and the feel of an instrument are very important for a beginner. The B12 is an excellent choice for ensuring that the student has every chance to experience progress on his or her instrument, thereby developing a positive association with music and music instruction.

"Superior quality and value"

The Buffet B12 is the best entry level student model clarinet out there. Key action is very responsive, sound quality is excellent, intonation approaches the mighty Buffet R13, and I recommend this model to my beginning students. The B12 will last advancing clarinetists for many years without hindering progress. To master the basic skills, a quality instrument is essential. The Buffet B12 is worth the investment for any serious student.

The Buffet B12 Student clarinet is my first clarinet that I have now been playing on for four years going on to five years here very soon. It is probably THE best choice for a first clarinet you can find. Even while you are still just learning how to play this instrument, it still gives you a great tone when played with enough air. I've personally gone through many competitions with this clarinet and have done absolutely amazing. The only maintenance I have had to do with it so far is replace 2 pads and just re-glue another one that was a little loose. I've also also had to adjust a key once but that was completely my fault that it got bent in the first place. If you assemble it the right way, and with care that won't happen to you most likely. When you get this insrument new, it'll come with cork grease (a must for new instruments), a swab, and a really nice case that has a little accesory space for your reeds and what not. Over the years I have been very happy with this instrument and I will still be using it in marching band in high school here pretty soon! :D So yeah this is an amazing horn for being a student model. just recently I've gotten a wooden clarinet to further my abilities in playing. It is an intermediate model of the same brand, Buffet. If you also decide to invest in an even better instument when you are ready, I would highly suggest sticking with Buffet Crampon, their great. And if you do decide to get a wooden clarinet, still keep your student model for marching because you absolutely NEVER take a wooden clarinet out to march! Never ever! Okay, well I hope this review has helped with your search for a first clarinet because the search is over! Get the Buffet B12, you won't regret it.

8 years of band concert band and marching band MI

I have owned this clarinet since I started playing and 8 years later it still plays like a charm. It survived 8 years of concert band and 3 years of marching band and it has no problems. I cannot think of selling this one, it is going to college with me next year. I've tried other ones to see if I liked them better, but none of them even compared. I would recommend this instrument to anyone!

I bought a Festival a year ago, so I don't play my B12 anymore, but I still have it as my back-up horn. This horn is the best student model plastic/abs clarinet available. These horns are also really good for use in marching bands. If you have a student in middle school, that seems really interested in the horn, consider buying a B12, b/c if they decide not to keep up with it, you didn't spend too much, and if they do stick with it, you'll be providing them with a great clarinet!

I purchased this for college marching band, as I did not want to take my precious Buffet R13 onto the field. It was GREAT! As a former middle school band director, I highly recommend it to any player for outdoor use, and for beginners or intermediates looking for something that is easier to play and sounds better than those el-cheapo "student" clarinets the chain music stores rent to the beginners! Get more for your money!!!

My daughter is very pleased with her Buffet B12 clarinet. She loves that it is lightweight and weather resistant for marching band while providing a beautiful, consistent tone for symphony band. The Buffet B12 clarinet is a high quality instrument and an excellent value.

"Great, but extremely sharp"

5 years clarinet, High School Jazz, Marching, Concert, Solos Palm Harbor, FL

I was once playing on my Prestige R13 (actually, it was the first day at my high school with it) and I was searching for a clarinet to use for marching band (spend another $3000 on Greenline? No way). I narrowed my search to 3 clarinets: the Yamaha YCL-250, the Vito V40, and the Buffet B12. After trying the YCL-250 and playing on my R13 for a while, I realized that another one of my friends was playing on a B12. She was kind enough to let me try it. Going in, I was expecting a good, in-tune sound from the clarinet, like most Buffets. I did get the good sound, but the clarinet is extremely sharp. Just about anywhere on the clarinet, altissimo, clarion, ect., you're most likely to be 20 sharp. On the bright side, though, the keywork, like any other Buffet, is beyond belief. The keys feel light and fit around your fingers so well. In short, it's very similar to the R13, but there are intonation flaws that makes this clarinet still considered as a student clarinet. It's more personal preference whether you want the B12 or the YCL-250, but either way, you're going to get a great, inexpensive clarinet.

"A fantastic instrument fit for any clarinet player!"

I played the clarinet when I was younger, but I bought this one for my daughter and it is a wonderful instrument! Not only is the sound great, but its very sturdy. It has fallen a few times while being in and out of the case, but there are no scratches. The case is a great, strong case with a velvet padding that cushions the pieces and it comes with a mouth piece case which is great if you don't want to put the instrument away, but you don't want your reed to get scratched, a reed, cork grease, and a swab. What comes with it alone is great because you save money. The clarinet has a rich sound and it hardly goes out of tune, even after we've had it for almost two years! If you are going to invest in a clarinet for you or someone else, it should be this one.

"Best entry level clarinet you will find!"

I bought my B12 clarinet as a second clarinet for outdoor performances. I already have a R13 clarinet that I've had for years. The sound on the B12 is very mellow & rich for a plastic clarinet. I tested the intonation with my chromatic tuner and it is very well in tune compared to other student models I have tried. The keys feel just as nice as my R13; the main difference is that it is of lighter weight because it is made of resin plastic. I wish I had this B12 back when I was in junior high & high school; I played on an old Vito back then. If you are a serious student then I recommend paying a little more for the B12 entry clarinet, you won't be sorry! :)

When choosing your young students clarinet, you want to be sure that they will stick with their instruments for years to come. This instrument gives them that opportunity. I now play on the professional level and still refuse to sell this beautiful instrument. I play on an R13 that's just gorgeous, and when comparing it to my b12, there are minor differences (with a good mouthpiece and reed, of course) Sure you can mess around with other brands and models, but trust me, they will all pale in comparison to the b12. The keywork and sound emission are just unbeatable for a student clarinet. Spend the extra money and save your self the trouble of having to constantly upgrade to a different clarinet.
