Comments about Buffet Crampon Metal Tuning Rings:
The description poses an interesting situation: pull the barrel out to tune thereby causing a cavity between the barrel and upper joint. In my experience, correct tuning requires the barrel to always be slightly pulled out, as the clarinets are tuned sharp (least Buffet). One could suggest to use longer barrels (67mm) to take this extra gap; that would be an expensive bandage to a temporary situation. Using these rings is a quick and inexpensive method to provide the bore of the instrument more continuity. I found that the higher overtone series (what gives the clarinet its clarity and "sparkle") was more present when I added the ring. The rings also assisted in voicing extreme altissimo. Definitely worth the small amount of money for the great benefit they provide!
