OVERVIEW

An expressive, beautiful professional instrument.

The Buffet R-13 clarinet has a 40-year history of quality and craftsmanship. From the wind ensembles to the great symphony orchestras, it is the benchmark in clarinet manufacturing. Crafted in high-quality grenadilla wood to ensure evenness of tone and response. The R-13's 3-step polycyndrical bore is noted for its dark, full sound.

Most clarinetists purchasing an instrument with this level of distinction have particular preferences in terms of mouthpieces, so the Tosca Bb Clarinet is priced and shipped without one. A fine quality French-made HB ligature is included. The HB is a silver-plated metal ligature that is very easy-blowing and provides a round, centered and brilliant sound as well as a superior detaché in the upper register. NOTE: Buffet does not include a mouthpiece with this instrument.

FEATURES
  • Finest materials and workmanship
  • Impeccable tone and mechanics
  • Timeless design
  • Top quality case and ligature included

Is it time for you? It may be time.Yes, it's time.

A Pro Clarinet for an Old Pro

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

I have been playing on a Buffet"Elite" for the past 20 years and like it very much. I felt that I deserved a new horn (probably my last one) so I purchased the Prestige "Pro". This is the first horn of the many I've owned that I haven't gone through a factory rep (importer) to select one out of many. I just called B&W and they shipped one to me in a couple of days. I was amazed to find that it was an an exceptional instrument (in tune, balanced scales, projection and a wonderful tone). I bought the Moennig Barrel with it and am delighted with the results. Fellow musicians and audience members have come up to me and complimented my playing and tone. I find the clarinet a delight to play and the mechanism and keywork to be great. This clarinet is expensive even with a sizable discount off the list price, but I believe is is worth every dollar.

Absolutely Wonderful

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

This is by far the best clarinet I've ever played on. The tone is so full, dark, and flexible; it produces an amazing concert sound and jazz sound. Every note that I play on mine come extremely close to being in tune, if not in tune. Since mine was so old, it didn't include the left Eb key, but I don't mind this at all. The tone holes are cut so well, and the keys are built perfectly. This is the best clarinet in the entire world.

Great Clarinet!

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

I've been playing on this clarinet for about a year and a half now and all I can say is that it's great! Of course, with a wood instrument, intonation is usually inconsitent but mine is surprisingly consistent. Great tone production, dark, rich in chalumeau and lower clarion registers; bright but mellow in upper clarion and altissimo registers. Good feel to the keys; the alternate Eb/Ab key is very helpful. You may have read that the pinky keys use plastic rods for operation and that they break easily but, from my perspective, you'd have to basically bend/break the keys to break the plastic rods! Great clarinet is all I can say! Experience (because it wouldn't fit below): *All-District Band *Conference Band (no less than third chair) *District Music Contest solo rating "1", "2", "3" *State Music Contest solo rating "1" *District Music Contest quartet rating "3"

Still the Gold Standard

By

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

Yes, one can mess around, the LeBlancs play very smoothly and evenly, the standard R13 with silver plated keys has a great sound, the Tosca makes some interesting improvements, but the R13 Prestige Bb Clarinet is still the benchmark. It has the best wood, the best workmanship, and the acoustical properties behind the R13 are still unsurpassed. No clarinet on the market today approaches it in terms of tone color and flexibility.

The Best of the Best

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

I owned this instrument until about 5 years ago when it was stolen when I was at college. But it was the best clarinet I had played. I have played many different types of clarinets and none of them had the tone and the feel. The extra Eb key was wonderful, especially when it came to odd fingering moments. I will own another one of these one day!

wonderful instrument

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

I have had my Prestige R13 for almost 8 years and I would never trade it for another clarinet. The key work is very comfortable and it is not as heavy as some of the other brands of clarinets. I have found the tone and response to be fairly consistent, even listening to recordings of myself when I was a less mature player. I have used it in band, orchestra, and jazz settings and it has potential for whatever sound you are looking for. I get a nice mellow tone and can play solos without getting too bright. I highly recommend this instrument to serious clarinetists.

Comments about Buffet Crampon Prestige R13 Bb Clarinet:

I purchased this clarinet expecting a quality piece of equipment I could use for the rest of my life. The Buffet Presteige did that for me. It allowed my tone to grow and develop. In addition, I was amazed at the response the clarinet had. It is most certainly one of the better clarinet on the market and for good reason.
