OVERVIEW

The professional's choice.

The Buffet R13 Bb Professional Clarinet is the legendary choice of professionals. Key of Bb. With .577" bore; 66mm barrel; premium-quality grenadilla wood; 17-key, 6-ring nickel-plated keys; polycylindrical bore; undercut toneholes; and adjustable thumb rest. Includes deluxe naugahyde-covered wood shell case with plush interior.

The Buffet R13 clarinet has a 40-year history of quality and craftsmanship. From the wind ensembles to the great symphony orchestras, it is the benchmark in clarinet manufacturing. Crafted in high-quality grenadilla wood to ensure evenness of tone and response. The R13's 3-step polycyndrical bore is noted for its dark, full sound.

Most clarinetists purchasing an instrument with this level of distinction have particular preferences in terms of mouthpieces, so the Tosca Bb Clarinet is priced and shipped without one. A fine quality French-made HB ligature is included. The HB is a silver-plated metal ligature that is very easy-blowing and provides a round, centered and brilliant sound as well as a superior detaché in the upper register. NOTE: Buffet does not include a mouthpiece with this instrument

This clarinet is absolutely AMAZING! This clarinet has helped me advance further than I could have ever expected in the past 8 months. It has a very warm dark tone, great in the low range, and confident in the altissimo register. The craftsmanship on this clarinet lacks nothing. The shape of each key hugs every one of your fingers and makes playing effortless. I'm not going to need a new clarinet anytime soon and neither will you if you get the R13. I recommend this clarinet to any and every serious clarinet player.

Obviously I'm not seeing what others are seeing here, because I'm really unimpressed with this horn. In fact, I'd say don't bother spending $3000 on an R13 when there's the flagship Tosca. I can't stand how the horn's so uneven in the upper register, and the low F is so flat it's simply unacceptable for any real professional. The keywork isn't nearly as responsive, and the pads fall apart in a year. I had to spend over $1000 on overhauling this instrument. Don't buy it now and regret it two years later. Patience is a virtue.

Comments about Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel-Plated Keys:

I am pretty sure everyone knows that the Buffet R13 is the way to go (although some would argue that Yamaha has a nice clarinet, too). I am writing to offer this piece of advice. I wish I had known when I got my R13 that I had a nickel allergy. I cannot wear nickel jewelry. My body chemistry actually eats away nickel and that includes the nickel keys on my clarinet. When I was young, the nickel plating actually peeled up and cut my pinky fingers like a razor blade. I bled on my clarinet! After that, I kept a close eye on how the plating was doing and I've had to have the lever keys and the register key re-dipped several times. It's expensive and a bother. Had I known 35 years ago, I would have sprung for the silver keys and I would have avoided all of this. Still, it's a wonderful clarinet! One more tip: I live where winter is brutal. If you wrap the top and bottom joints in a plastic bag before putting the clarinet away in the case, you will avoid a lot of cracking.

        Dependable, Sturdy, and Worth It

Comments about Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel-Plated Keys:

I recommend trying out a handful of clarinets before you pick just one because I got my hands on a good one of these clarinets in high school (used even!) and have been playing it for about five years now. Every five years in my career I have gotten a new instrument, but this one is different. I'm finding that I'm not discovering any much better than my own without the price skyrocketing(especially since I have upgraded my barrel, mouthpiece, and ligature to my liking). In other words, I think I have a great body to my instrument and that really can't be replaced. On a side note, the keys are really sturdy (nickel). The barrel lines up with the body (the bell doesn't, it's actually best at a 180 degree turn for the best tone). The only problem is that my throat tones are a little off, but I worry getting them tuned with throw off the rest of the instrument. However, I can adjust for this pretty easily. The only thing I wish they had on this instrument is a left alternate Eb key. It's something I've always wanted. The Buffet Tosca and Festival have it I believe if you're looking for that. The Buffet Tosca might be nice, but I believe that this model is comparable to that one. (On the positive side,it's much cheaper). Honestly, if you want a better clarinet overall than an R13 or a Tosca, a Buffet Festival is probably your best bet, which is not available through WWBW.

If you dont own a buffet R-13 you really dont have a clarinet. This clarinet has amazing tone quality and gives easy response to those super high notes. It is so worth the investment!!

This is my first professional model clarinet, and it it worth every penny. The sound is colorful and focused, and the tone is consistent from the low E to the high G without overwhelming effort. The wood body is gorgeous, and the keywork is flawless. Buy it!

Comments about Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel-Plated Keys:

I have been using and R-13 for as long as I can remember. Since the first time i have played it, I immediately noticed a huge change in my intonation, ease of play, and tone, as compared to a student clarinet. The R-13 makes you sound like a professional, even if you aren't one. Also, the price of the R-13 is worth every penny. Compared to one of the more expensive models of the R-13 like the Prestige R-13, it is a bargain. I highly recommend this to the serious clarinet player if they want to sound like one of the very best clarinetists out there. And lastly, the R-13 gives you the sound and projection that you would normally get with that one coveted reed. I hope this helps!

Comments about Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel-Plated Keys:

I got this clarinet in a replacement to my plastic clarinet. my teacher had told me to get this clarinet because I had been getting very advance. When I first got it I was filled with joyed wanting to play it as soon as I played it it was a whole different thing from my plastic clarinet. It played so beautifully and you could feel the notes in your heart. The altissimo notes were a peice of cake and the lower notes sound so rich and dark. It stays in tune so well you barely have to tune up. I have no cons. If your going to upgrade your clarinet don't waste your time with the E11 or any other clarinet.

I have been playing the clarinet for almost 15 years and I have played on many different types of clarinets such as Bundy, Yamaha, Leblanc, and Selmer and I must say that the Buffet R13 is the best!!! It has such a rich tone to it and it plays beautifully. It was well worth the money!

Comments about Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel-Plated Keys:

This clarinet is the best clarinet that I have ever tried. It has great responsiveness and has warm tone quality. The only thing that I can complain about is that the metal connecting the two halves of the body is made in such a way that it must be slightly bent to get all of the high altissimo notes. I also use the Gonzalez reeds, and they will prove to be very useful to any clarinetist.
