This is my first professional model clarinet, and it it worth every penny. The sound is colorful and focused, and the tone is consistent from the low E to the high G without overwhelming effort. The wood body is gorgeous, and the keywork is flawless. Buy it!
I am a first year music student and had never even tried a professional clarinet. When I passed my audition into University, I immediately started looking for a professional instrument. My instructor recommended the R-13, and I have never been disappointed. It has a rich deep tone, and a fantastic clear upper register. It is well worth the money. You will not be disappointed.
I attend an arts high school for jazz and I love this clarinet, I have had this piece for 3 years. The only thing I recommend changing is the ligature. I use a Rovner Jazz ligature which increases the response of the horn dramatically. To keep it looking and playing well, I recommend rubbing it with lemon oil twice a year, trust me it sounds crazy, but it works. I haven't had any problems with it yet.
This is a very quality product. I'm charmed by the richness of tone, the tuning is precise, and the keys run smoothly. Definitely worth the 2500. And after you get it, consider getting an overhaul from a reputable technician.
Obviously I'm not seeing what others are seeing here, because I'm really unimpressed with this horn. In fact, I'd say don't bother spending $3000 on an R13 when there's the flagship Tosca. I can't stand how the horn's so uneven in the upper register, and the low F is so flat it's simply unacceptable for any real professional. The keywork isn't nearly as responsive, and the pads fall apart in a year. I had to spend over $1000 on overhauling this instrument. Don't buy it now and regret it two years later. Patience is a virtue.
