The mechanics & action on this thing looks & feels very, very solid, and the grain on the wood appears to be very tight. Even Bulgheroni's "Opera Oboe" is getting rave reviews, especially for its solid lower register, i.e., low notes that speak easily. I can certainly attest to the solid sound and feel on my current oboe d'Amore. (Oddly enough, both their Oboe d'Amore and "Opera Oboe" models go for the same price.) Here's a helpful hint on how to extend your reed life: Soak your reeds in a small cup of hydrogen peroxide to kill the "bacteria experiment" before you put your reeds away. You will extend the life of your reeds immensely. I do this after I arrive home from a night of playing. Take care. Pax et Bonum,
