Bulgheroni Student Oboe
The Bulgheroni FB-091 oboe is a student model, but everything that comes out of the Bulgheroni manufacturing facility reflects the meticulous care that is at the heart of the company's culture. It is perfectly suitable for anyone taking a first step into the world of music. Made with the same materials as the professional models, it has been specially studied to produce an easy, immediate and well-defined sound. Using a quality instrument right from the start lends a much greater chance of success in the future.

Features of the FB-091 include a grenadilla wood body, nickel silver keys, and thickly layered silver-plated keys. It has a semi-automatic octave key, a double G# key, left hand F key, fork F resonance key, and low Bb resonance key.

Bulgheroni instruments are meticulously produced in a small factory on the Swiss-Italian border. This small, family owned business turns out some of the world's finest oboes and English horns. I had been without an oboe for a few years (used to play throughout grade school and was pretty good as I made state). At this stage in my life, I just wanted something to play in my free time, for church and possibly weddings. That's why I chose to look into the intermediate level oboes. I utilized the WWBW's "Selection Plan" and tried out this and the Yamaha YOB-441 (wood). At first, I could not tell a difference between the two; they were both easy to play, responded well in all registers (or so I thought). I almost chose the Yamaha only because I liked the case better (yes, it came down to the case!). However, when I started playing around with the low notes, the low B flat on the Yamaha was totally flat (almost an entire note). Also, the lower notes on the Yamaha spoke significantly louder than the medium and high registers, so I found myself having to really control the volume in the low register. The Bulgheroni, however, was very consistent no matter what register I was in and was in tune. I did not feel like I had to control the volume in different registers, which made for smooth and easy playing. The ergonomics were great, as online reviews have pointed out. I also really like the fact that the Bulgheroni has a loop for a neck strap, in case I want to use one. Both were very similar in sound, but my dad liked the Bulgheroni better in a blind test. I almost went with the Yamaha because of name recognition. However, the Bulgheroni won me over in the end. Price was not a consideration for me between these two, but I guess I lucked out in that aspect.

My daughter is an advanced beginner, we bought her the Bulgheroni Student Oboe because it had all the keys she needed to advance, it has a good range and solid sound she can play it sweetly in the higher notes.
