Product Description
Bulgheroni
A great choice for the student looking to move up to a wood oboe and get it at a reasonable price. This oboe plays very well with good resonance and comfortable keywork.

Company Info
Bulgheroni instruments are meticulously produced in a small factory on the Swiss-Italian border. This small, family owned business turns out some of the worlds finest oboes and English horns. The highest quality wood, heavily silver plated keys, artistic keywork along with magnificent tone and response make the Bulgheroni instruments truly world class, but at a price that is significantly lower than comparable French made oboes. My daughter is an advanced beginner, we bought her the Bulgheroni Student Oboe because it had all the keys she needed to advance, it has a good range and solid sound she can play it sweetly in the higher notes.

I had been without an oboe for a few years (used to play throughout grade school and was pretty good as I made state). At this stage in my life, I just wanted something to play in my free time, for church and possibly weddings. That's why I chose to look into the intermediate level oboes. I utilized the WWBW's "Selection Plan" and tried out this and the Yamaha YOB-441 (wood). At first, I could not tell a difference between the two; they were both easy to play, responded well in all registers (or so I thought). I almost chose the Yamaha only because I liked the case better (yes, it came down to the case!). However, when I started playing around with the low notes, the low B flat on the Yamaha was totally flat (almost an entire note). Also, the lower notes on the Yamaha spoke significantly louder than the medium and high registers, so I found myself having to really control the volume in the low register. The Bulgheroni, however, was very consistent no matter what register I was in and was in tune. I did not feel like I had to control the volume in different registers, which made for smooth and easy playing. The ergonomics were great, as online reviews have pointed out. I also really like the fact that the Bulgheroni has a loop for a neck strap, in case I want to use one. Both were very similar in sound, but my dad liked the Bulgheroni better in a blind test. I almost went with the Yamaha because of name recognition. However, the Bulgheroni won me over in the end. Price was not a consideration for me between these two, but I guess I lucked out in that aspect.
