I'm an amateur woodwind doubler (primary saxophone, also flute and clarinets), so I wanted a very good bass clarinet mouthpiece that I can grow with to go with my recently-purchased Selmer Paris 33 bass clarinet. I bought the Clark Fobes San Francisco mouthpiece with RR tip opening of 1.80 mm. I had been using the entry-level Yamaha 4C mouthpiece. Compared to that, the tone of the Fobes mouthpiece is much more full and solid. Fortissimo comes out easy, and pianissimo comes out without hme having to hold back too far. I love the tone I'm getting with this mouthpiece. It seems like it was made for the bass clarinet, rather than being a clarinet mouthpiece upsized to bass.

i bought this mouthpiece to upgrade from my b45. i also order a mcclune s1,s1, and z1.i could not get a very good tone with this piece. i got an HR facing and use a 3 reed. it just doesnt work compared to my b45. theres only one thing tha better. when you can get a god sound, the lows are huge. just get an s2 though

i would like to withdraw my other review. i ended up choosing this mouthpiece. i adjusted to it, and i got the most beautiful tone, most robust lows, and absolutely shrieking highs. the response, this mouthpiece offers is extraordinary. its just a good of a jazz mouthpiece as a classical. the one "downside" is it is not good for clarinet coir. it overpowers everything. i like that, but many don't. i would recommend either a rico reserve number 3, or vandoren v12 number 2.5 (HB facing). for the record, this review has been based on the HB facing mouthpiece. congratulations mr. fobes, youve made the best contrabass, and now bass clarinet mouthpiece.
