Having played trumpet for many years on a student line Conn, I wanted to make the transition to pro line horn. I had played several Bach Stradivarius trumpets in the past and thought I would end up with a Strad after an afternoon of playing on several different models. I played the Yamaha Xeno, the Bach Stradivarius, King, and then finally played the Conn. I was amazed at the richness of the tone and how well it responded to my nuances. I have talked with several other trumpet players and they would agree, the Conn Vintage One is a sweet horn. I would recommend this horn to anyone.
After trying several different models of several different brands of pro-quality horns, I chose the V1 1BR. I found the slotting, intonation, and tone quality throughout my range to be the best of the reasonably priced professional Bb trumpets. Fit and finish quality were second to none. I even converted to the CKB 1 1/2 mouthpiece that came with the horn - I never expected that to happen since I had been playing a Kanstul Prana knock-off.
Knowing that a horn's "personality" has quite a bit to do with personal playing preference, my previous practice-and-performance Bb's have been Kanstul, LA Benge, and Paris LeBlanc (Courtois built). I had no problem with any of the other pro brands, but I readily admit that my playing style, strengths and weaknesses drive my choices. I hope this last bit of the review provides some frame of reference for other shoppers.
