I used these to replace a full set of aging Flexocore strings and I am VERY pleased with the results. These are far more responsive than the Flexocores were even when new. I have also used Larsen with Spirocore/Helicore on my cello and for me the Kaplans beat them all for smooth sound and quick response. It's actually easy to play quietly on the C-string, even in fourth position. You bow and they just speak, yet there's plenty of volume available when needed. One big surprise was the near elimination of my F# wolftone. I'll admit I left the Flexocores on too long, but my 8 year old cello has NEVER been this easy to play!
I really like the A and D strings. They sound good, and are nice and mellow with a smooth sound. The G and C strings are not responsive enough, and have too much of a reedy sound. I took the Kaplan G and C off and put my Helicore G and C back on. They actually match much better with the Kaplan A and D. The Kaplan G and C sound really scratchy when you play fast 16th notes on them. I recommend you go with Kaplan A and D, with the Helicore G and C. Likewise, the Helicore A and D match well in tonal quality with the Kaplan G and C, but I like the other combination much better. That's why these strings are on my spare cello, and the better ones are on my good cello.
