The trumpets I tried to use this with had longer mouth pieces than the size of the puller would fit. I found that the wingnut would be at the top of the screw before the top of the mouth piece would be reached. I also noticed that the cast jaws would damanage the coating on the lead pipe. I have used bobcats in the past and those always worked for me.
I have owned this mouthpiece puller for about 7 years, and I love it! I am an elementary school band director and teach beginning band. As you can imagine, I see my fair share of stuck mouthpieces. I have had three bobcat style mp pullers, and have stripped the gears out on all three. The Magnum is easy to use, works extrememly well, and involves the turning of ONE handle rather than two. The problem I found with the bobcat style pullers is that if you don't turn the screws evenly, the screws get stripped. It becomes harder and harder to turn, and then you need to use pliers to turn the screws. No such problem with the Magnum. One hand to line up the puller on the lead pipe, one hand to turn, and POP! the mp is off. You won't regret purchasing this device.
I had one trumpet with the mouthpiece that would not come out. The Bobcayt puller did not work for the mutiple times I have tried using it on this one trumpet. I got the DEG Magnum in the mail today and I put it right to the test. On the first time trying it the mouthpiece came right out! This product is easy to use, there is only one screw to keep an even pressure on the mouthpiece instead of two diffrent ones to turn and try to keep it even. Over all the Bobcat is a kitty cat compared to the DEG Magnum, I extremly recomend it.
