Euphonium travel mute for warm up and practice.

The Denis Wick DW5587 Series Euphonium Travel Mute is a compact, ultra-light in-bell mute for the euphonium. This mute is perfect for the busy player who needs a mute that stores easily within the bell of the euphonium without protruding and fits easily in gig-bags and cases. It is free-blowing and resonant, but very soft indeed, making it perfect for both warming-up and for serious practice. The response is very even from pedal tones to the top of the range. It has excellent intonation in every register and is the most in-tune compact mute available.

You will not disturb the neighbours when practicing with this mute! It is finished with an internal cork damper and has thick high-quality neoprene pads that give a secure grip and dampen the sound to a barely audible tone. It emits approximately 5db less sound than comparable practice and ˜silent' mutes. It is perfect for near-silent practice at home, for use in hotel rooms or for quietly warming-up without disturbing fellow musicians.

A leather strap is fixed to the top of the mute for easy insertion and removal, and this hand-spun mute is finished to the highest quality.

Developed with Steven Mead, the new travel mute sets a new standard for compact in-bell mutes.

Euphonium travel mute

Comments about Denis Wick DW5587 Euphonium Travel Mute:

Fits in the horn well but this mute puts the horn way out of tune and some notes horribly off pitch. So bad it was that I returned it. Portable and compact is only good if it works. This one doesn't. I will have to go for another brand. Still looking.

Euphonium Practice Mute

from Palm Beach, FL

Comments about Denis Wick DW5587 Euphonium Travel Mute:

Bought it based on the name. Doesn't center the pitch and plays sharp or flat depending on the register or particular note. Didn't give me any confidence while practicing. Fighting the pitch more than quietly warming up or practicing. I will return it in the next few days.

Comments about Denis Wick DW5587 Euphonium Travel Mute:

I got this about a week ago, because I need to be able to practice in my apartment, which has a fairly strict noise policy. The mute is very light, and the fact that it fits completely inside the bell (except for some of the strap) is a big plus. The resistance is much more natural than the Yamaha Silent Brass which I had been borrowing from work. There are only two complaints I have (and the first might just be that I'm not used to it yet): from low G to B, the feel on the embouchure is noticeably different from the rest of the range, feeling like the partial is too high. The second issue is intonation; I know it's a practice mute, but some pitches, especially in the higher register, are off enough to affect my confidence.
