The Dynasty is a nice instrument already in the key of Bb. With a friend specialised in that kind of job, I snortened the main tubing in the cylindrical section and the 3 valve's slides to get an instrument in the key of C. The result is amazing and great ! I haven't to transcribe the music sheet, and most of all the instrument sounds more accurate and clear. The harmonics are absolutely in tune, easy in the high.
A common reaction when you take this horn out in public is "It's beautiful," usually right after "what is it?" It is really pretty, this horn. What's more, it plays well. Valve action is good, balance is fine, intonation on spot. Mine played a shade sharp(or I play it a shade sharp) so I spent a few dollars for a receiver extention, which brought the entire horn to a solid green on my tuner. It also gave me a bit more distance from the tubing, a welcome benefit. I fit mine with a Bach 12E for a centered brassy sound that helps overcome the fact that this horn is not capable of the volume you might want from something called a trombone. If you need volume, use a mike or get a slide T-bone. On the other hand, if you want smooth, mellow, Chet Baker cool, plus looks that draw attention, try this one. Minus one star for all the places water finds to hide from the spit valves. Sooner or later you have to pull some slides to get the burbles out. Pretty horn, though.
