Coming off of the King baritone I'd been playing in DCI, I was expecting a typical "Die-nasty" horn. Boy, was I wrong. This baritone is an excellent all-around horn. The tone quality is good, and (unlike the King 1127) it sounds good in all registers - I regularly double everything from tuba to mellophone parts on it without a problem. The only downsides are a bit of stuffiness in the 13 and 123 valve combinations, three spit valves (one of which empties onto the tubing), the large valve casings, and the weight (it is a bit heavy). Mostly minor problems, though. I'd definitely recommend this for a high school or college band setting. Good, budget-friendly, sturdy instrument.
I really like this horn and would definitely recommend it. I was able to pick it up the day I got it (also the night before our first comp.) and play through the field show better than ever the next day. If you play a euphonium in a concert band or something of the like with a small shank, the horn will take a bit longer to get used to. The valves are a bit larger than normal, so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with small hands. My left hand cramped up for about the first week of use because of the stretch around the valves. I just noticed my left hand is bigger than my right. Anyways, it's pretty good. One of the spit valves empties onto the main tubing, so I would say just make sure to wipe it off, say, at the end of practice just to keep corrosion from spit down. The valves are very responsive, though, I'm not sure if this is just because I only use the DEG valve oil that came with the horn. Nonetheless, the valves move nicely.
