I picked the JDX6. I measured the opening at 105 mils.
I selected the Rousseau after trying various pieces including the metal Otto Link and Berg Larsen.
It allows me to modulate the tone from soft and mellow to jazzy, edgy, and loud. I am using a fibracell #3 reed.
The only downside is that the Rovner style ligature that came with the piece is too big and won't hold the reed even if tightened all the way. It's incomprensible how the factory could supply such a mismatched lig.
But because of the great playing quality and reasonable price I still give it 5 stars.
Any standard lig for a rubber tenor mp works well and I am using Fibracell #3 reeds.
Atfter playing on an otto link, i decided that my tone was a bit too harsh for my liking. so i decided to try a hard rubber mouthpiece and this name came up. i play on a 7, which is huge. the chamber is wide open and every note comes out fantastically. the low notes can be played at pianissimo easily and can also be played so loudly that no other instrument in the band can be heard. altissimo register is amazing too. every note on the horn sings with this mouthpiece.
This mouthpiece knows everything!!! From sub tones to fortissimo it can sound modern or classical with a perfect intonation. Gives a big ease and comfort for the player.
Just got it today and put it on. I knew with the first note that I liked it and as I warmed up, I liked it more. Lots of projection and a "raw" sound that I like. I do wish they sent a better ligature, but my old one does fine.
This is my second Rousseau bari piece. A friend of mine wasn't completely satisfied with his new piece, so I let him try my modified JDX7. He sounded KILLER with the piece, so I sold it to him. I decided to "upgrade" to a very expensive metal piece. I liked it, but I missed the huge tone and projection I was getting from the Rousseau. So I bought another (JDX8) and compared the two. I'm keeping the Rousseau, for a third of the price of the more expensive piece.
